what makes reading easier for you?
Hi, I’ve been thinking about this and I really want input from people with dyslexia or other reading differences.
My brother has dyslexia, and it’s not that he doesn’t want to read. It’s more that before he can get into a story, he has to work through what’s on the page first (decoding words, keeping his place, layout, etc). By the time he gets past that, it can take away from actually getting immersed in the story, and reading isn’t something he can just casually pick up.
That made me wonder how many other people feel something similar, so I wanted to ask:
what actually makes reading easier or harder for yall?
Does font, spacing, or layout make a real difference?
Do you lose your place or have to reread a lot?
What do you really struggle with when reading, even if you want to read?
And are there any strategies you’ve learned over time that help, that you wish were already built into books?
I’m just trying to understand what actually helps people. I have an Idea of something to help, but right now I just want to learn and figure out if this is something people could want for themselves or their kids.
