From the Stage to the Sanctuary: Leaving My Old Band, Finding Faith, and Launching Independent Gospel Labels
A couple of years ago, I walked away from my favorite band and the music that had defined my life for decades. To anyone looking in from the outside, leaving behind what I loved most made no sense. But deep down, I knew a fundamental shift was taking place.
Within the last year, that transformation became complete: I was baptized, received the Holy Ghost, and embraced a new lifestyle as an Apostolic Pentecostal.
Stepping away from my old life wasn't about abandoning music; it was about re-aligning my purpose. With 18 years as a live performance musician and 30 years as an audiophile and producer, I realized my technical experience and sonic passion weren't meant for self-glorification. They were meant to be devoted to Contemporary Christian Music and spreading a clear, gospel-inspired message.
Building Labels with a Purpose
To put this mission into motion, I’ve started independent record labels designed to give distinct, gospel-centered genres a dedicated platform:
Traditional Worship: Pure, reverence-focused songcraft rooted in classic scripture, congregational praise, and timeless arrangements.
Celtic Faith: Blending rich, historic instrumentation and acoustic depth with honest, devotional storytelling.
Alternative Gospel: Pushing sonic boundaries with modern sound design, raw textures, and atmospheric arrangements for listeners who want something beyond mainstream radio.
The Reality of the Independent Undertaking
Building an independent label infrastructure from scratch to promote and distribute new acts is a massive undertaking. Finding unique talent, managing high-level production, and carving out distribution channels without major-label funding requires relentless discipline.
As an independent producer, the day-to-day challenges are very real:
Scouting True Talent: Discovering sincere, original artists who care deeply about the integrity of their message.
Maintaining Audiophile Standards: Applying three decades of recording and mix experience so independent gospel releases stand shoulder-to-shoulder with top-tier productions.
Navigating Distribution: Breaking through modern algorithms to connect distinct sub-genres directly with listeners hungry for spiritual substance.
It is easily the hardest work I’ve ever done, but also the most rewarding. Turning decades of musical experience toward the Gospel isn't just a new project—it’s my life's work.
To fellow independent creators, producers, and artists:
How are you balancing the operational grind of running an independent project while keeping your core message and mission at the center of your work?
