When £14 pour overs fail twice in a row: Do you complain or just take the hit?

Hello everyone!
(Photo just for attention / filler)

I have a very special situation and I don’t know what to think about it or what to do (if it happens again).

So I’ve been visiting London for the past 4 summers, and it’s actually the place where my love for pour over kinda started. This year, I was very excited to visit some of those cafes that I already love, plus a new one that had amazing reviews.

For context, I’m a home brewer. Back in my hometown, I frequent a local café that doesn’t even serve super high-end specialty beans, but their pour overs always deliver. They are consistent, sweet, and well-balanced.

Unfortunately, my experience in London this time was a total disappointment. I went to a few different highly-rated cafes and ordered two pour overs at each place. I’d say I chose cups around £10 to £14 (they even had cups up to £50!).

None of them were great. Look, I totally get it if a barista misses the mark on one cup, human error happens, they might get distracted, or water temperature fluctuates. But, I ordered two pour overs, one after another, on the same day, and both were terrible.

To be honest, it is quite sad and confusing, honestly! And I don’t know what to do in a situation like that. So, do you just take the hit? Do you talk to the barista? You never go back to that place? Two of those places were AMAZING last year

Would honestly love to know what would you do? Would you ask them to brew a new one?
