EF education first Tokyo

Hello!
I’ve applied to a language program through EF (education first) to Tokyo. Its duration is 16 weeks long, though I have been a little worried.

Included in the course was housing aka living with a Japanese family supposedly with a roommate that will be in the same program as me. I am worried because you don’t know who you’re living with until 1-2 weeks before you actually start the program. And switching to live on campus would cost me an additional 40000SEK which is the equivalent to $3800 and I don’t know how I’d pay that tbh.

Despite knowing that I have the possibility to switch the family I live with, I’m still worried about the fact that I’ll be living with strangers for 16 weeks. I’ve heard from others that they don’t really make sure you get dropped to a decent host family, a mutual told me “they could be sex traffickers and they wouldn’t do much about it”

Mind you this is my first time traveling alone, so i might be overthinking but i really would appreciate the perspectives and maybe others experience traveling with EF

Thanks!
