Professor refused an extension

I enrolled in a class late (before add/drop deadline, but still a few days after class officially began). There were assignments due before I even enrolled in the course (Due Sunday at 11:59am, and I enrolled on Monday around 12:30am).

I politely asked the professor for a due date extension because of my late enrollment, and he said no.

Is this common? I’ve never enrolled into a class after the start date. Just curious about other people’s experiences and thoughts.

UPDATE: I emailed the professor again and clarified the situation. He had thought that add/drop day was Friday, not Tuesday. He had originally thought I enrolled into the course on Friday and had 2 days to complete the assignments. After clarifying that I enrolled on Monday (after the assignment due dates), he has agreed to let me complete the assignments!!!

Thank you to everyone who responded. This reddit post gave me the courage to advocate for myself (and my grades) <3

Looking for friends

Hey everyone! I’m currently doing my PhD at UCF. As an international Asian student, I’ve found it a bit difficult to make friends and meet people on campus, so I thought I’d post here to connect with others who might want to hang out sometime.

I enjoy joining gym group classes, listening to music, and I used to play keyboard for several years. I’m also interested in starting a podcast with someone who enjoys talking about life, creativity, research, or different experiences.

My research focuses on neurodivergent individuals in organizations and entrepreneurship. Would love to connect with people who share similar interests or are just looking for new friends around campus!

Horrible Roommates

Hey wassup anybody got some crazy roommate stories recently? Lemme tell you bout mines...my roommate is constantly yelling on discord and online gaming at 2-4 in the morning (we constantly tell his ass bout this), he leaves spots & crumbs all over the kitchen , he has the upstairs hallway STANK one time he had something so damn nasty and stank in his room the entire house smelled rotten and like boiled ass, he leaves body hair and spots all over the tub and one time the other roommate had to cuss him out, because he left piss multiple times on the toilet seat and he also got some of the worst body odor ever...he ran off 5 roommate and now 2 more is leaving so he literally pushed 7 roommates out in total...Please tell me I ain't the only person out of UCF dealing with a dirty, loud and disgusting ssa roommate? Who else got horrible student housing experience?

ETA: oh y'all another thing when i first moved in i brought a lot of propel water and he would end up stealing it and when I confronted his 5-600 lb (not exaggerating he big ASF!) ssa about it he blamed it on our other roommate....who was in Louisiana 😑

has anyone gotten their financial aid packages for fall?

i'm not taking any summer classes this year so this is the first time i don't ever have to worry about checking myUCF but i just checked and my financial aid package still isn't showing up under "accept/decline awards" as it's saying "award access not available". all my information is up to date (hasn't changed at all) and i submitted my fafsa for this upcoming school year back in november. my aid package still isn't here so i'm just wondering is it just me? or do financial aid packages for fall not come out during this time.

thank you and please help if you can i rely on financial aid for school

Summer Aid

Ucf usually pays for all my classes but for the summer they are paying on 30%. I enrolled in 3 classes which is 9 credits and thought that was full time but I got this email saying it wasn’t. So confused and today’s the last day to add and drop so I wanted to ask here. Thanks!

SAS Accommodations Denied

What is everyone’s experience with receiving SAS through UCF? My request was denied because of the following:

“We are unable to approve it, as your situation falls outside AEAA's scope. AEAA is intended to offer limited flexibility for brief, periodic health isses that occasionally affect coursework. Based on the information provided, your condition appears to be ongoing and consistently impacts course participation, which AEAA is not designed to accommodate.”

I have chronic illness that comes with consistent flare-ups along with an autism diagnosis AND ADHD. I’m so surprised that both the AEAA and priority registration were denied. I am obviously able to submit my coursework on time most of the time, but having accommodations significantly helps when I do have flare-ups or for extra time on assignments due to my ADHD and autism.

I feel disheartened and overwhelmed.

Making friends as a first year not living in dorms?

Hi hi hi! incoming freshman in the fall. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on making new friends? Especially if you've never really been to parties or anything? I've had the same group of friends for like 6 years and I don't even remember how I met them and IDK how to make new ones..... Especially since UCF is stereotypically a big party school and even though I think I'd be super into that I reckon I'd have to make friends to get invited to them first..........

any advice is appreciated!

What dorms should I absolutely avoid?

Im coming to ucf as a freshman. I originally planned on Neptune, but unfortunetally the prices spiked up by 20%. Im looking at dorms on the more affordable side of the spectrum, such as apollo or libra, but I am still undeceive and considering all options. What dorms should I absolutely avoid?

Where to dispose plastic bags?

I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post this but I have two trash bags full of plastic shopping bags that I need to get rid of. I live right off campus and theres no recycling bins here.

Please tell me your off-campus housing horror stories

I'm in the rough spot of struggling to find a sublease for fall, but I'm worried I'll end up living at the apartment from hell. Please tell me your horror stories from your experiences with off-campus housing. (Management hell/living conditions preferred, but I'll pull out popcorn for roommate stories.)
