This is my favorite diver by far
This one hooked me from the moment I strapped it on. Never wore a 38mm before, but the thickness, and it is thick, makes it wear bigger.
I just received the Modello Quattro UT-4 GMT and wow does it look sharp. I’ve been looking at this watch for quite a while, but I was able to find it new for $495, so that was the deciding factor.
I've been interested in Unimatic for a while but just never committed to one until I saw this limited edition. My wife and I just started playing tennis after years of saying we should, so this felt meant to be. I figure this will motivate me as I won't feel like I deserve to wear it if we're not playing and improving. I was a little concerned about how the case would wear, but it seems to fit my wrist nicely!
Summer is here again, so it’s time to dust off my Unimatic U1e. This year it’s on the original Gen 1 Unimatic rubber strap. I think they do a newer version that’s thinner, but this one is really thick.
This watch is pretty much set-and-forget. No need to worry about taking it in the sea or the pool - this photo was taken post-snorkelling, so it went to depths of 60, possibly even 70cm.
The lume is also excellent and seems to last pretty much all night.
In the image, the lugs look like they’re overhanging the my wrist, but I think that’s just the angle.
Been following this brand since the start and owned a ton of Modello Uno’s over the years, including a carbon fiber one, but this is the only one that I actually kept in my collection (U1S-TGMT)
Solid Unimatic look but lighter and thinner titanium case with ETA movement which makes a ton of difference on my small wrist. Price was not justified when it came out but after some years I managed to find one at a bargain (800 USD) from a private seller!
I really don’t like the recessed groove where the lugs meet the case on Unimatic watches—to the point that it actually puts me off the watches a little. For some reason, that detail always makes the case look like an off-the-shelf OEM case to me.
I’m probably imagining things, but I also have this persistent feeling that I’ve seen another microbrand using the same, or at least a very similar, case before. I just can’t remember which brand it was.
Does anyone know whether this Unimatic case design is actually original to them, or whether they start with an existing OEM case and then modify or further machine it?
I’ve also always felt that the cases on their three-hand watches look like dive-watch cases with the rotating bezels simply removed. The area where the bezel area would normally sit is unusually wide, and I find it pretty ugly. Lima watches give me a similar impression.Maybe that’s actually where my suspicion that Unimatic uses OEM cases comes from.
There’s also something about Unimatic’s design language in general that gives me the impression that it was designed by some very self-confident guys from a subculture scene. I can’t really explain it any better than that—it’s just the vibe their designs always give me.
