White Founders of the Rising Sun: Ancient North Eurasians, Indo-Europeans and the Hidden Bloodline of Japan

Ancient North Eurasians, Indo-European nomads, and the forgotten bloodline that shaped Japan.

In the deep Paleolithic, Japan’s earliest inhabitants were Proto-Mongoloid groups from the south carrying haplogroup D. Then, from the frozen north, Ancient North Eurasian hunters crossed into Hokkaido. Carrying Y-haplogroup C1a—the same lineage found in Ice Age European Cro-Magnons—they mixed with the locals and helped found the Jōmon culture. Their genes left lasting traces: deeper-set eyes, stronger brow ridges, and the distinctive look still seen among some Ainu.

Thousands of years later, during the Kofun period, another wave arrived. Steppe aristocrats linked to the Jie, Sogdians, and Scythians of the Later Zhao dynasty brought horses, more advanced iron, trousers, and the sacred horse cult. Their influence appears in bearded haniwa warriors, conical hats, and early elite descriptions—including a shogun recorded with a red face and yellow beard.

The Emishi of the north, Jōmon descendants with ANE heritage, resisted the Yamato court and later fed into the samurai tradition. Over centuries these Eurasian threads were absorbed, yet they still surface in certain faces, clans, and cultural echoes.
