I've got a good theory and a bad back. Go nuts

I've got a good theory and a bad back. Go nuts

Can't make out distances with this theory, but it's not my worst solve ever. I'd love a cut if it helps someone with a solve and the Treasure is up there. I wouldn't put it past them to have this year's solve be one canyon over from last year.

If it’s treasure you seek, here’s some friendly advice

Begin your quest early, when the mornings are nice

  • I'm beginning my search at The Little America Hotel. This sponsor is named as where the hunt begins and ends. More on this later

Glance to the west, use distant peaks as your guide

  • Little America Map shows the Olympus room at the far West side

https://preview.redd.it/tve6t5t8ic6h1.png?width=1371&format=png&auto=webp&s=767084cd83d4bf9835ce11111489be392d538c26

They should look like the Rock with the moon on its side

  • Diana (Goddess of The Moon) meets East Cliff Dr in Mt Olympus

https://preview.redd.it/3hmpb3xbic6h1.png?width=497&format=png&auto=webp&s=faa8e350ec033d6688ed37aef1c0aa5ff7a90f71

Walk through the dust that stands as a shield

Yet when the storm blows, it refuses to yield

  • The Quarry at the mouth of BCC

https://preview.redd.it/amucy0rnhc6h1.png?width=1025&format=png&auto=webp&s=306505f57c73685a0b2e02886e51b1d831f3867c

Visit the stranger who once knelt to stone

And climb where the wind is never alone

  • Bells. Bells keep the wind company.

Also, where America [Little] began (not reading much into it, but I like the connection) So this is where the Hunt begins and Ends

https://preview.redd.it/pyx5oreuhc6h1.png?width=830&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9650a7d531fab620df87071e88a50869e4c0a99

If the phoenix’s order is one you’ve joined

Follow the galleons that Hermione coined

Wind through the trees where the trail is hard

  • The trail gets very tree-filled and rocky

Until you meet the dragon and the fortune he guards

  • Calls to other fantasy: The Hobbit/LOTR Lonely Mountain - Erebor

Now, close to the prize, you can rest your shoulders

And find the wooden chest amongst the boulders

Is this the Rock with the moon on it's side?

I swear this has to be it. But at the same time I could be going down the wrong rabbit hole. What do yall think?

A full solve with some weak theories. Poke holes.

Got a first solve. Test it for me! Poke holes in it!

  • If it’s treasure you seek, here’s some friendly advice
  • Begin your quest early, when the mornings are nice
    • General advice to start early because the hike starts in an area that's shaded in the morning, aka an area on the EAST BENCH! Not an area in the west that would be sunny in the morning. Maybe a later clue will reveal more about these lines.
  • Glance to the west, use distant peaks as your guide
  • They should look like the Rock with the moon on its side
    • Antelope Island has distant peaks in the west. It can be seen from most locations in the valley. It's the Rock with the moon on its side. Why? The Rock is another name for Alcatraz Island. That's why Rock is capitalized. Alcatraz, being an island, ties it to Antelope Island (bonus that they are generally shaped like each other). The moon on the side is the dusty, exposed lake bed on the east side of Antelope Island.
  • Walk through the dust that stands as a shield
    • This is a clue to start at "the rock" AKA Antelope Island, and head east on Antelope Drive (past the dust between the island and the valley and towards the more steady mountains)
  • Yet when the storm blows, it refuses to yield
    • As you continue east, you hit the mountains this is a generally good starting place as there are 2-3 trails in at the end of antelope drive up against the mountains
  • Visit the stranger who once knelt to stone
    • Is Adam, from the Bible the stranger? Adam's Canyon? Adam once kneeled at stone altars. He's been referred to as the stranger.
  • And climb where the wind is never alone
    • Hike to Adam's lookout, where the wind can hit you from every direction
  • If the phoenix’s order is one you’ve joined
  • Follow the galleons that Hermione coined
    • These clues give us a measurement to help us know when to step off the trail, not sure what the numbers are yet, but I'm going with 519 feet. Book 5, chapter 19
  • Wind through the trees where the trail is hard
  • Until you meet the dragon and the fortune he guards
    • Past adams lookout, there are a few crazy rock structures, one of them could look like a dragon, I won't know until I hike it, but there are a few street view bubbles up there and you can see how jagged and curvy the rocks are
  • Now, close to the prize, you can rest your shoulders
  • And find the wooden chest amongst the boulders
    • Hints at where to step off the trail and search for the chest

Trails I’m taking off my List

Living Room - The German War Heroes isn’t good enough once you reach it. Needs more.

Hidden Valley Park to Bonneville Shoreline Suspension bridge - Has a rock that looks like a dragon, but isn’t a difficult trail and there are many points at which you could be possibly winding through trees.

Trails I want to look at still

- Anything in the American Fork Region
- Anything next to a temple
- Coyote Hollow Crescent Street / Coyote Hollow Trail
- Some trails in Farmington / Adam’s Trail
- Sawmill Trail near Hidden Valley Park

Theories I like and have the most weight
- Alcatraz / Antelope Island
- Films Theme
- Kennecot Mine being the “moon”

Any remarks from others??

West

When the first part of the Poem states to glance to the west and what to look for to the west... I am curious why so many 'solves' are east of I-15? Like Draper, etc

So, it's not to be assumed that the trail is west of I-15?

Walking or just looking west

So do we think when it says look to the west use distant peaks as your guide is it telling us to walk west for most of the trail or do you think it’s just saying that’s how you make sure you’re on the right trail just looking west, you can see whatever the rock with the moon on its side is supposed to be?

What do you think of...

What do yall think of when you hear boulder(s)? To me I think large immovable objects. Requires heavy machinery to move or lift. Google definition is a rock over 10". That is just a stoneor a rock to me. I don't know what are your thoughts?

Cairns: stranger who once knelt to stone

Cairns are rocks stacked by unknown people to mark parts of trails… they’re usually pretty short, which would require a person to get low (kneel) in order to build it

Would the Y hike plus slide canyon be out of the picture?

I have a theory that revolves around the Y hike being the part about the galleons and then everything else is a part of the slide canyon hike, which starts at the top of the Y. I know the Y hike is private property owned by BYU, but the slide canyon trail is not private property and I think that it would possibly be hidden there. Would they go through private property that is being allowed to be used publicly to get to slide canyon? Or is that considered hiding the treasure along private property?

Don't think I will have the time to search any more, so heres what I found.

Stick dragon

Theres a restroom with a bunch of pavilions and rocks right next to the "belly" of the dragon. The coyote hollow trailhead has a great view of distant peaks, copper mines, etc, the historic silica pit looks like a shield, the memorial cove has a stone monument of someone who passed away. it connects with ghost falls trail where the ghosts are in the air, and winds back and forth in switchbacks in dense trees and gets pretty tough. Then you get to the trailhead, where you see the belly of the dragon. Thought I'd share where I got stumped, don't think I will do any more searching, so hopefully this helps someone. Good luck. If this does help I would appreciate a cut, but I know this is reddit so the chances of anything is slim.

Question...

This is my first year participating in the hunt.

And I'm wondering...do they really leave $25,000 in cash on the mountain, or is it a QR code?

Just kinda scary to be walkin' around with that much cash if you found it.

I dunno.

First 4 lines

I think I know what they mean by “the Rock” however, I am having trouble with the first few lines before that mainly the “friendly advice” and “quest” I think one or both of these means something but haven’t been able to figure it out. I have some ideas but it doesn’t fully translate. Anyone open to sharing any ideas they have had?

Side quests?

I'm a little confused by the side quests. Is the answer a number, location, or key work? Geographical coordinates? Trail names? I have a pretty good idea of where to look for my solve, but not exactly what I'm supposed to be guessing 😅
