Grad Student new to area looking for housing

Hello there

I will be attending the university in the fall as a grad student. I will be moving from out of state and am looking for a place to live. I did some research and am finding it hard to find legitimate looking sites for roommate finders or even rooms for rent. Is there a website or facebook group even that everyone in the area uses?

Thank you so much for your help and answers

Jim Biggs

After digging into public records and recent events, I believe Commissioner Jim Biggs (District 3) needs to be formally investigated.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the issues:

2023 Highway Department scandal: A fired employee went public alleging misuse of county resources and retaliation. He specifically claimed his supervisor had a close relationship with Biggs that allowed him to operate without oversight. He filed an EEOC complaint. The supervisor was cleared of criminal charges, but the allegations were serious.

Multiple anonymous complaints over the years, including campaign finance issues in 2013 and nepotism/timekeeping allegations in Juvenile Services in 2024.

Ongoing fights with Chesterton and Porter over 911 dispatch, where town officials accused Biggs of using a police shooting for political gain to push his preferred system.

This raises major red flags about:

How contracts are being awarded

Transparency with county staff

Whether decisions are being made in the best interest of Porter County taxpayers

I’m calling on the Porter County Council and the Indiana State Ethics Commission to open a formal investigation into Biggs’ vendor relationships, contracting decisions, and overall conduct.

The people of Porter County deserve answers. This level of opacity and questionable decision-making shouldn’t be ignored.

What does everyone else think? Has anyone else been hearing about this?
