Why THIS is the Cruelest Form of Justice in Cinema

How far should one go for justice once the system has already failed?
Successful thrillers from the last decade like Drishyam, Kahaani, Maharaja, and Vadh treat justice as finite, usually ending with the villain's life. But there is a recent surge of International and regional films like Argentina’s The Secret in Their Eyes, Gujarat’s Vash, and Malayalam’s Eko that have a far darker look at justice, which unsurprisingly takes their protagonist into much crueler territories.

Instead of asking whether the villain deserves to die, these stories ask a more haunting question: What if living with the punishment is worse than death?

From Visionary to Villain - Aaron Fechter

Hey r/rockafire! Long-time admirer of the Rock-afire Explosion here. I just dropped a 40-minute video essay on Aaron Fechter that covers everything from the genius of what he built, the ShowBiz fallout, the 2008 revival, all the way through the controversies and the Hydrillium explosion. I tried to be as balanced and fair as possible. Chapter One exists specifically to give him his flowers before anything else. I did months of research, fact-checked everything, and visited Billy Bob's Wonderland in person for the conclusion. Whether you love him, hate him, or it's complicated. I think there's something in here for everyone who cares about this legacy. Would love to hear what the community thinks!

Nauru us often called the fattest country in the world. The reason for this is that their land was destroyed by phosphate mining and they are now dependent on fatty imports.

I Asked Other Artists if any AI Use was OK. Here's What They Said.

Over the past few months I've been researching the less intense uses of AI. I started looking into it because I'm in an Art Club in my area, and a couple artists admitted they use AI for reference images. Although I'm against any AI use, I wanted to try to take a nuanced look at that and other uses people have told me are "fine". I'm hoping this helps fellow artists realize the harm AI can have, since the information isn't as obvious if you're not online keeping up to date with it.

Naughty Dog games manipulate you into becoming the characters you're playing as, which I think is incredibly unique and fascinating. I go into it in my video essay below!

Does any JRPG actually tell a story like 13 Sentinels?

Like the title.
I genuinely can’t think of another game structured quite like this

The look, the left to right 2D style, the thirteen characters story overlapping with one another concluding in this crazy plot twist. I know Octopath Traveler sort of does something like this but not to such a degree in terms of narrative. I still think 13 Sentinels is Vanillaware's best work till this day. I sort of wanted to talk about the game a little and ended up making a video if anyone’s interested: https://youtu.be/yh4VtWxpGYo?si=2SbZqf9T4P4lMZHx

What can we learn from Mr. Robot?

If you love this show as much as I do, celebrate 5/9 with a deep dive into what the series can teach us about our own world and fight for freedom! Obviously this show gives us so much to think about and this video only scratches the surface, but here are some questions I explore: What strategies does the narrative teach us? What tools does its construction reveal? What is reality? And, more importantly, can it be hacked?

[OC] What This Sprite Comic Left Behind [06:10]

I read over 2400 pages of a Megaman Sprite Comic from the year 2000 that I didn't like, just so I could tell you why Bob and George mattered. Let me know what you think or just enjoy the show!
