Volca Keys faulty plyphonic mode

I'm having trouble with my Volca Keys, bought it used from a flea market and everything works fine, except poly mode, which just makes a really quiet fart noise until I press more than one key, in which case only two notes maximum play.

I already tried finding a solution and had no luck, if anyone else had this problem and found a solution please share it, I'm at a loss.

Can post a video of the unit If needed.

Thanks!

Which volca for my camping trip?

hey! I’m thinking about buying a Korg Volca for an upcoming camping trip. I’m not a keys player much, and have limited experience with synths. I own a digital synth keyboard that I use infrequently these days, but have also played around with analogue synths brielfy. I’m mainly a guitar player and singer.

My friend and I are going on a 5 day hike and camping trip and would like to involve some music. Drum sticks, egg shaker, harmonica are on the list. Considering a ukelele, or a melodica. I’m also thinking about a Korg Volca, but I don’t know which to buy.

I’d love to be able to play synthy/textural/lead stuff, playing the keyboard, but also possibly sequence or make something akin to a beat/loop that can be left running while we play other instruments.

We will probably be using the built in speaker on the unit, but could think about bringing a portable speaker too.

Can anyone suggest what might work here?

Thank you!

Is there a Volca Sample isolator audio in mod?

I'm curious if such a mod exists, but I couldn't find one on google. I'm surprised it doesn't exist on stock hardware, so people could run their entire DAWless setup through the isolators.

Would such a mod be useful, or would just using a small 3-band EQ effects box be easier?

The rubber buttons on my Volca Sample were starting to require more and more pressure to use, making it increasingly frustrating to play, so I finally opened it up and cleaned the copper pads with WD40 contact cleaner. The improvement in sensitivity was pleasantly noticable.

Word of caution, the wires connecting the battery and speaker terminals to the circuit board can easily break. I actually broke both and had to solder them back.

Help with recording...

Hi there,

So i've been pretty regular on this and other pages about buying and recording for DAWless. I've been working on about 3 different acts/bands/whatever for a few months now and loving the process so much. As I stated in a post yesterday I started out wanting to recreate that sort of 90's industrial Gabba of Ultraviolence but not only does it always end up being something totally different from what I had in mind but - and here is my point - the recordings sound like shit. I really want to be able to record what I play live as a single person/unit and playing it all is not even the problem as I am having so muh fun just learning all this (after years of just being a bassplayer). I use amps to play through and I really love the rough slightly distorted sound when I play through them but when I play the recordings back its just not the same. I realised through my interface I could link the interfaces so have a mic hung offf the amp to try to cature that raw, rough sound and the other input capturing the raw feed from the mixer....

oh yeah, on that note; my set-up is a Volca Sample; Volca Kick; Volca Bass; Volca FM; All going into the mixer (see below) and through the interface. The Volcas and Arturia are connected through a DoReMidi thru-6 Pro. Arturia keyboard + DoeReMidi are being powered through this box but are not going into the Mac this way.

Can the recording go through the DoReMidi or is it just for a clock/sync? Thats how new I am to this that I don't even know.

On the mixer I have the sound going from the Volcas out the CTRL Room Out Socket (Left) into the interface and the Main out going straight into the amp which is then picked up by a mic plugged into the second inteface. On Garageband i've been selecting both lines to be picked up on the same track (1+2). it would be great to control the instruments seperately as seperate tracks but i've been trying to do it all DAWless so far and I wouldn't know how anyway.

https://deep-lunge.bandcamp.com/album/awful-music-for-awful-people

Sometimes some tracks sound amazing and sometimes shit sounds like its being played from a cupboard onboard the Titanic, but i seriouldy don't understand why and how when my set-up is the same....

PLEASE be aware most of these tracks I've hacked together for the sake of this post/question so forgive their rough/shite editing... (I mainly keep these pages to mak eme feel good about what I'm traying to do and to send to a friend for inspiration. I DO NOT consider them GOOD let alone finished pieces of music. Ta.

For instance, my track French Costco (Track 4 at the time of writing. Subject to change, ha ha...), sounds totally different from all the others which all sound up-front and clear. This sounds far away and the master track is so quiet I had to try to bring it up in the Bandcamp mixer just for it to be hearable. While,, other tracks are SO loud I have to turn them down drastically - yet as far as I am aware I am doing nothing to my recording set-up...!

I used to have so much extra noise per-track/instrument (as can be hear on track 5/Robocop Takes A Nap) but i bought those little thingies for each Volca to dampen it so it doesn't sound so bad as my previous stuff.

You guys that record shit live straight from your living rooms make it sound album quality - how are you doing it and what am I doing wrong?! I recently watched a Ryan Waingo video on seting up your Volcas through your DAW and right now its starting to not loook so bad an option. SO, what do you guys (and i wish, Gals) do to soud so great....?

P.S. all these tracks have been recorded at vastly different times in my learning process (listening right now on headphones I realise that track 5 is coming entirely thru the right channel for some reason). Please don't hate on me for being clueless or for my music being shit - i'm really not asking for you opinion on the music - but please do helo me understand how to record this shit as I make it. ...

My other *thing* is https://thelefthandsevered.bandcamp.com/ which will probably sound even worse as it older, but it's all Grist for the Learning Mill, right?

Many Many thanks! I LOVE this group! Sorry for the LONG post!

Sampling Twig Samples:

Argh, just the other day I read a comment about someone who produces different sample packs every month (can't recall if they were for free or Barbados Drachmas....) and the poster said that this person 'even' had a sample pack of just twigs snapping and other forest sounds.

Thing is now i've been thinking alot about this and listening to Autechre's Quarastice which really just sounds like they are tested out different sample packs and thinking about doing a Forest Synth project so naturally I am looking for this flipping post and cannot find it anywhere! It could only have been on here or r/volcas or possibly a youtube video which i am also trying to scour through.

Does ANYONE know what or WHO I am talking about?! PLEASE! It's doing my flipping head in!!!

How to trigger a pattern, not a slot?

Hi, I need some advice on pattern trigger

I have a Volca Sample 1 with Pajen firmware.

Triggering this from a Roland P-6 sample, using TRS to MIDI DIN connector. This is my first attempt at triggering the Sample 1 via MIDI, so I am probably missing somethign

Currently, when hitting play on the P-6 is just a sample being trigger on the Sample 1 that maps from the P-6 i.e. on the P-6,
Bay A1 triggers the Sample 1 slot 1
Bay A2 triggers the Sample 1 slot 2
Bay B1 triggers the Sample 1 slot 7
Bay B4 triggers the Sample 1 slot 10

Should I be able to trigger a pattern on the Sample 1 instead of just an assigned slot? If so, how do I make that happen?

Thank you!

Ambient Jam Behringed Odyssey x Volca Modular

hello everyone!! I'd recommend headphones on to enjoy this 🎧

I have just finished my first year of study as a music technology bachelors student and this is an ambient practice jam that i pushed myself to upload and share

I know that i have a lot of catching up to do in order to be able to produce a better sound quality result, although I am pretty proud for the mental gymnastics i went through due to switching the tonal positions of the two synths mid-jam

let me know what u think !!!

sidenote: i just purchased a volca sample 2 and I will be waiting for it's arrival within this week, so I'm pretty excited about that too, currently trying to build my dawless collection of instruments and I'm open to trying new things, so if u have any suggestions on hardware fx or synths, I'm all for it, please share ur suggestions below

P.S. The autocorrection screwed me w the behringer name on the title 🙃
