Added 2 NQ Contracts Right Before My Stop… Then Trailed 🌯

Was short NQ using one of my VRT HVG + box zone setups.

Entered with 1 contract initially. Price pushed right into my stop area, but the HVG was still holding perfectly and volume behavior still looked weak, so instead of panicking I added 2 more contracts literally right before I was about to get stopped.

Ended up catching the dump and locking around $4.5k after trailing. Those HVG stops are something else.

Was up $600 on my payout challenge and still blew the account

Figured i’d post this because most trading pages only show wins.

Started the day up around $600 trading my normal VRT setups. But TakeProfitTrader only showed around $500 profit and for some reason that pissed me off more than it should’ve.

Instead of just taking the win and getting off, I went back in trying to make another $400.

After that I started forcing trades, overleveraging, taking setups that weren’t even that clean, and putting stops way tighter than where they were actually supposed to go because I didn’t have enough room left in the account. Basically stopped trading my system and started trading emotionally. Blew the account not long after.

Looking back the setups weren’t even the problem. I was. Going to review everything and run it back smarter.

The breakout setup that got me my first Topstep payout

This is probably my favorite setup to trade now.

I wait for volume to build a high volume range first. After that, the midpoint is everything for me. The setup is basically price reclaiming the other side of the range through the midpoint. Once it gets back above and starts holding, I wait for a pullback into the nearest HVG and enter off the reaction targeting the high of the range.
That’s it. Simple.

What changed a lot for me was realizing most breakouts are trash. They break out with no real participation behind them and instantly reverse. The good ones usually come after aggressive volume steps in and price can actually hold above the midpoint instead of losing it right away.

This setup played a big part in me getting my first payout and lately I’ve just been sticking to this instead of forcing random trades all day.

I Broke My Own Rules… Then This Happened

Day 2 of the VRT payout challenge.

Started the day with a bad trade.

I shorted a midpoint + HVG rejection even though the cloud and table bias were both bullish. Took about a -$250 loss because I ignored the overall context.

Later I saw:
- midpoint fail
- price break an HVG with strength
- bullish cloud below price
- bullish table bias
- a new HVG forming in trend direction

Entered on the retest and added size after confirmation instead of predicting.

That trade ended around +$900.

Challenge is now sitting around +$1062 after 2 trading days. Need 5 trading days total for payout eligibility.

Biggest thing I’m learning:
Not all setups are equal. Context alignment matters way more than the pattern itself.
