How do you hope Professions actually work in the D&D: World of Warcraft manual?
One of the things I'm probably most curious about in the upcoming book is the profession system.
We know there are going to be 10+ professions, and WotC has described them as a new D&D mechanic used between adventures to craft gear, tinker with trinkets and prepare upgrades, but as far as I know we still haven't seen the actual rules behind them.
I'm really curious how deep they'll go with it.
Would you want professions to have their own progression, recipes and rare materials? Should Mining, Herbalism and Skinning actually matter while exploring? Should an Engineer slowly unlock crazier gadgets, or should professions remain a relatively lightweight downtime mechanic?
Personally, I hope they're substantial enough that choosing something like Engineering, Alchemy or Blacksmithing actually feels like part of the character rather than just another tool proficiency.
What would you want the profession system to look like? And if the rules turn out to be good, would you use them in regular non-Warcraft D&D campaigns too?
