West marches illustrations
I’m doing some illustrations for an upcoming ‘west marches’ tool-kit publication, and I’m also harvesting more motif ideas so don’t be shy if you have some suggestions.

I’ve gone through hours of YouTube vids but I’m looking for places to discuss ideas and tips and tricks. It seems that most posts in this sub are just advertisements for people’s games. So where should I look for actual knowledge?
Salutations friends!

A moss-covered stone about the size of your palm suddenly appears beside you. A low humming sound and an electrical sensation builds as you move your hand closer to it. Steeling your nerves, you grip the stone and with a whir of arcane energy you would find yourself outside the gates to a city built inside of an impossibly large tree that soars through the clouds. Laughter echoes out from within and sweet scents waft on the wind. There are many curious and exciting new friends to meet inside of Luna Pines!
Click the invite link below to explore our fey/forest themed discord server - Macguffins, Ltd. . We are a living West Marches Play by Post community that is primarily based on RAW 5.5 edition Dungeons and Dragons with a few tweaks to cater to the player base.

Our server is welcoming to all levels of experience. Whether you are a veteran or beginner, our group of moderators, helpers and DMs are here to help you seamlessly transition from introductions to dungeon delving and roleplaying in no time.
Come, stay a while, give meaning to your character’s story, have fun, and make friends along the way!
Not actually tricking them obviously. I have some close friends who play dnd and other games with me regularly. I have many others who have expressed interest, but likely wouldn't commit to something regular. I've been excited about putting together my Westmarches campaign - what's the best way to persuade my rpg-playing friends (and curious casuals) to try it out?

What if I told you there's a whole community of players and DMs that have been around for half a decade, running multiple adventures and connecting unique characters and yes even making memes just a link away? That's right! Eberron: Legends of the 5th Dawn is a server in discord where we run D&D games! Not only seamlessly combining 5e and OneDnD content, but adding popular Eberron 3rd party content including Exploring Eberron and other Keith Baker products to our player options. All while DMs bounce ideas and look into popular 3rd party sources like Duran's Guide to the Blood of Vol and the Giant's Guide to Xen'drik for even more stories to unfold!
We have Sharn as our main hub, so even when you're not engaging into quests you can roleplay with a vast community and bring your own stories into the mix. With special encounters avaliable so you can fight crime in the streets of Callestan or help patrol King's Forest against the nerfarious Jungle Boys! We're also actively seeking special events as the Eberron we've expanded on together continues to flourish. Including the implementation of holiday events providing special challenges and opportunities.
For those keeping up with my releases of Elsie's Notes of Certain Doom this is where I run those encounters along my fellow DMs! Join in the fun!

About us!
We're a small community hoping to expand our player base as we are setting up a sequel as our previous 3 year long campaign is coming to a close. This campaign is set roughly 30 years after our first game’s current date, which means technology and magic have progressed, leading to an industrial revolution in the world. The campaign setting would be best described as 'gaslamp fantasy', a late 19th century world meets a high magic society.
We're a little more laid back group, putting real life first, but still jumping in when we can to have fun! This means you can join We're a community open to all peoples, identities, sexual orientations, and nationalities, and would love to get to meet more D&D minded folks.
Our game is set on the recently founded Blackrose Island, the current, and final, base of operations for the Blackrose Mercenary Company. With a combination of Episodic Bounty Missions curated by our dungeons masters, a Westmarches style rotating Island Exploration, and a base town and mercenary compound, there is surely something for everyone to look forward to and take part in. This campaign is also extremely heavy on the role play, so if youre looking for a group with a lot of constant combat, the game might feel a bit slow for you.
Homebrew and Crafting is also heavily encouraged! Using our crafting system courtesy of "Witch and Craft" by Astrolago Press, Infuse, Enchant, Forge and Brew your own customized gear for your adventures, including your very own Character Defining Item, that one special item that makes your character who they are! Be it a magical blade, a shield, or an arcane focus!
We welcome you and hope to see you make your mark on Imethra during this, the Age of Innovation. We are looking for an open number of people, so if you are interested, just send me a dm!
Hi, I’m starting an online West Marches game on Wednesday, May 20th, running on Tabletop Simulator. I have some slots filled but the more the merrier.
The main twist: Players build the unexplored parts of the map through play. After completing a session, the group gets to place new hexes onto the campaign map:
Those hexes aren't just terrain, there is some world-building too. They become part of the world going forward. The gist is that exploration does not just reveal the "map", rather it helps create it.
The game is paid, run online, and built for drop-in / drop-out West Marches play. I'm running two time zones - a GMT 5pm slot and a US Pacific 5pm time slot. There are a few more details and table rules, but that's the basics.
Reply here or DM me with questions!
The Crater of Ciasom was formed during a cataclysmic event of legend in the days of old, when a vast meteorite crashed into the ground.
The apocalyptic event formed a geographical wonder - a circular mountain range that spanned half of the country, its peaks all facing outward from the epicenter of the vast Crater - itself a wasteland of desert and ruins - at which could be found a lake of blood and viscera that oozed aberrant magic within an approximate 50 mile radius, as measured by the Archivists in their forays into the wasteland.
The city of Halrani was founded in the crater in the new age. It is from here and the surrounding kingdom that many adventures and stories unfold. Participate in urban intrigue, grand travels and expeditions, delve ancient ruins, face off against sinister orc warlords, malevolent fey, vile necromancers, mighty dragons, and even rise to become a landed noble and have a tangible effect on the wider world.
About us
We're a small community of players and dms hoping to grow our playerbase. The server has been around since 2020, but after some years of on and off activity. We've decided to introduce a "server reset".
Scaling our old characters back to level 5, the same as the starting level for new players.
By doing this we tend to even out the playing field, and by introducing new players, we're hoping to build the server into a comfortable and enjoyable place to play D&D in.
Platform, Voice/Text.
Sessions are run live and primarily synchronous text-based. Players are welcome to join voice chat during these (for vibing, music, memes, etc), but participation is not required, as some players prefer text-only play. There is also play by post roleplaying and activity on the server text channels between sessions (that often develop into greater plots), so there is always activity going on.
System.
D&D 5e (primarily 2014, but also playtesting 2024 subclasses)
Available Space.
Looking for players and DMs (who are also players) (i.e. you get to be both!). 6 currently active DMs, with the hopes of getting a couple more.
Timezones.
We have DMs and players all over the world, so we try to keep things flexible so everyone gets to participate. Currently active DMs are based in Europe, Australia and USA.
Joining the server.
If this sounds interesting to you, please shoot me a message.
We welcome both old and new players alike.
So, I've never tried to run a Westmarch before, and I've been kinda interested in doing so lately. I have my own homebrew setting with some lore (22 pages), so I at least have a world for the players to play in.
I'll be running the server using D&D 3.5e, mainly because I want to get better at running the system, and I'm currently going down the list of books and thinking of ones to ban for character creation.
