Anyone receive Letter of Assurance yet?

My son's rep emailed that they're starting to send these out soon.

Anyone gotten one yet, or have an accurate timeframe of when they're sent out?

West point transfer

Would it be possible for me to transfer to an ivy or on par school from West Point. The main reason for this is because I’m afraid I wont be able to have any free time for other things and I also don’t want to pay tuition for a Community college(and I also don’t want to go to one).

At what class rank does MI typically go out?

Kinda curious since I’m thinking about trying to branch MI pure or with a detail if I go to the academy. I know pure MI typically goes out around 700OML for ROTC(so roughly top 25%) and was wondering if it’s similar at USMA.

Henry Ossian Flipper

Henry Ossian Flipper: A Legacy That Opened the Door

In 1877, Henry Ossian Flipper made history as the first African American graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

But being first was only part of his story.

Born into slavery in Georgia in 1856, Flipper grew up during one of the most transformative periods in American history. Through education, discipline, and extraordinary perseverance, he rose to an institution that had never before graduated a Black cadet.

At West Point, he endured isolation and discrimination while carrying the weight of being a pioneer. He graduated, received his commission, and went on to serve as an officer with the Buffalo Soldiers.

His contributions extended beyond the battlefield. Flipper became an engineer, worked on the American frontier, wrote about his experiences, and continued building a professional life after his military career ended under controversial circumstances.

Decades after his death, the fight to restore his honor continued.

In 1976, the U.S. Army granted him an honorable discharge.

In 1999, President Bill Clinton granted him a posthumous pardon.

Henry Ossian Flipper's legacy is bigger than a single "first."

He represents courage when the odds are against you.
Education as a pathway to opportunity.
Excellence in the face of discrimination.
Resilience after setbacks.
And the power of one person's achievement to open doors for generations.

His life asks us an important question:

When you become the first, what doors will you leave open for those who come after you?

HS Senior I took Precalc, should I take Calc or Stats next?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a high school senior, and my absolute dream is to attend West Point, major in Defense and Strategic Studies (DSS), and become an officer.

I have already taken Precalculus, but I struggled with it. Right now, I’m finalizing my senior year schedule and trying to decide my next math class. I’m torn between pushing through and taking Calculus (even though it will be hard for me) or switching over to Stats to protect my GPA and secure an A.

I know West Point has a heavy STEM core curriculum (like MA104) that everyone has to take, regardless of major.

My questions for grads, current cadets, or anyone familiar with admissions:

  1. Since I already have Precalc done, will admissions look down on my senior schedule if I choose Stats over Calculus just to keep my GPA high?
  2. If I skip high school Calculus, how brutal is the Fourth Class math sequence going to be for someone who found Precalc tough?
  3. Should I suck it up, take Calculus now as a senior, and risk a lower grade to prepare myself, or take the guaranteed A in Stats?

Appreciate any brutally honest feedback or advice you can give me. Thanks for your time.

Crushed dreams

Dream school is Westpoint but I heard that theirs an overly large competition for West Point with people who are just blatantly smarter, stronger, and better then me. I currently have a weighted gpa of 4.1 Taking two club officer leadership positions (one of which im taking the lcub over completely as the president) and involved in other clubs. Im also volunteer at my Ambulance & Rescue corps play JV Volleyball (hoping to get into varsity this year) and will be going to EMT school during my school year, taking around 3-4 aps for junior year and I have connections with local government and mayor pf pur town. Yet when I hear that their are people out in this pther school in ny district with like 4.8 gpas, glowing letters of recommendations , varsity sports and everything I just feel like loosing hope in even trying to apply

I received a letter from West Point stating that I am among the Nations top students and they are very interested in considering me for admission. Is this like sent to everybody or do I have a really good shot at getting in?

Application Question based on profile

Hello. I am a rising high school senior that is navigating the college application process without much external advice/help. With that said, I've had a few questions about my profile and a few other things that pertain to WP. My FFR has been really helpful, but the more help the merrier.

  1. I have a very unconventional profile in that it's very heavily based in the humanities. Leadership wise, I have 5 very solid positions that involve leading others + real impact, but it's not what you would normally see eg. varsity sport captain, student council president. What would be the best way to express my activities in the nom packet?

  2. I did not do a sport throughout high school. This was something I have discussed at length with my FFR, and there's kind of a long story to this. TLDR: did a sport for 11 years (pre-professional level), quit before high school for personal reasons, maintained a athletic/active lifestyle, and will be joining cross-country in the fall (in her words: anything is better than nothing). If you have more advice/unconventional wisdom, please help out.

  3. I have a very solid why/reasoning for why I want to attend. However, the current political situation... is not very... stable (?) and I was wondering how that is reflected at WP. As a minority (gender + race), how strongly should I be weighing this into my decision?

I would appreciate any help/advice/anything. Thank you so much!
