Anyone else bothered by the garden displays at Lowe’s taking up the entire sidewalk?

I walk to the Jewel on Paulina and have to go through the Lowe’s gauntlet to get there. They leave juuusssst enough room to walk single file on the sidewalk if no one is browsing the plants/shopping. Most of the time the only option is walking into the busy parking lot entrance.
It’s obviously not a huge deal, but it is so baffling to me. How is it even legal?

Affordable Vet

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for an affordable vet in the West Town area for my dog’s annual wellness exam and vaccinations. Right now we go to GoodVets, but I’m wondering if there's somewhere more budget-friendly. We do not have a car, so ideally looking for places in West Town or nearby neighborhoods that are accessible by bus.

What’s with the fireworks this year

Obviously I expect it around the 4th of July, but wtf is going on this year? It’s like every other right they’re out there.

I’ve lived here for five years and this is the first time I’ve experienced this. Anyone else just totally over it? My poor dogs and cat are losing their shit.

It’s back! No adoption fees event at Chicago Animal Care & Control this Saturday 5/16! (I’m a volunteer)

The vast majority of dogs are medium and large, 35 lbs+ and up and are pitties, cane corso, german shepherds, shepherd mixes, and lab mixes. If these kinds of dogs aren’t for you, that’s OK.

I adopted my pitbull from CACC and she’s the love of my life. These dogs are overbred, overlooked, and it’s time to change the narrative.

Grr Update: Still Searching, not found

Hi — a huge thank you to everyone. My sister and I have been touched by the support from the neighborhood.

Grr is still missing. We had two sightings yesterday, and my sister and I rushed to both locations. We found the cat both times, but it was not Grr. They were too small and tail not fluffy enough, plus they didn’t come to us calling. One was down on the 2000s block of Iowa, and one was on Hirsch and Artesian. Locals on the street assured us both cats had been hanging out in the area for a while.

We have ordered more posters. His litter box, bed, stroller, blanket and some food are all outside. I called some of the local vet offices to give them a heads up.

Thanks again. Please keep an eye out and contact the numbers on the posters, or message me on Reddit.

Staying in Wicker Park Chicago for the first time from the UK, looking for hand picked or curated vintage, does anyone have any recommendations? Any cute dancing spots too?

Or dive bars?

Large police presence at western/armitage/milwaukee

Anyone know what’s happening? Lots of cops; 2 fire trucks stopped outside of Arturo’s, and traffic being diverted. Hearing helicopters now. Hope everyone’s okay, I’m being nosy lol

Help! Cat got out 3 hours ago

He is BIG and very fluffy. He has never gotten out before. I have been walking for hours and haven’t seen him. Got out around 2:30am on Potomac and Hoyne. If I knock on your door asking please be nice. Trying not to panic. He is friendly but probably scared.

Edit: he has not been found. I’ve been contacted by three scammers. They’re fucking using the photos of him to feed into AI prompts to fool me into thinking they have him. It’s really scary.

When the rain stops at 5 we are putting up posters. I’m going to put his cat trees out front and out back. Tonight I’m going to take our other cat around the neighborhood in a stroller to see if his meows/scent will find Grr too. Thank you everyone so so much.

Edit 2: Still looking. I have his litter box, bed and food out front and one of my blankets out back. Posted on Facebook, Neighbors and Craigslist. I met quite a handful of you out walking around. It means everything to my sister and I.

Tomorrow I will be calling local vets and PAWS to give them a heads up. Will probably also make a new post in the morning here. I have walked 24k steps today. Thank you all so much again.

Thieves- Milwaukee ave retail theft

Hi! This couple stole an item from my store (felony level theft), and I have them on camera. I sell vintage independently so it’s like stealing from my pocket. Just a heads up! I’d also appreciate if you have any info about them.

Thank you!

Campaign to name Park #567 in honor of muralist Don't Fret

Don't Fret was a Wicker Park local who championed the underdog through his artwork. His work can be seen throughout the neighborhood. Sadly, Don't Fret passed away last year at just 36. A campaign to name a small, unnamed park after him has been created.

You can read more about Don't Fret here: https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/04/22/dont-fret-dies-at-36-local-street-art-legend-championed-the-underdog/
