r/windsurf
This model does not support images. You can remove them or switch to a model that does.
Keep getting this error if there are more than 1 thread running in devin local. I am using Opus and Sonnet usually.
`This model does not support images. You can remove them or switch to a model that does.`
after updating to the latest devin desktop app.
This is so annoying , please fix it asap. Do not push an update on a Friday of long weekend please.
Best AI coding subscription under $20/month for heavy agentic coding? (India, student)
I'm a 4th-year CSE student from India, and I'm looking to buy one AI coding subscription with a budget of around $20/month.
My primary use case is agentic coding, not chat. I want to build websites and full-stack projects mostly by giving prompts and letting the AI work through the codebase.
My workflow would look something like this:
- "Redesign this entire landing page to feel like Linear/Vercel."
- "Implement authentication, dashboard, and database."
- "Refactor the whole codebase."
- "Fix all TypeScript errors."
- "Build this feature end-to-end."
So I'm looking for something that can handle large repositories, maintain context well, and let me run long autonomous coding sessions without constantly worrying about hitting limits.
I'm not looking for the best chatbot. I'm specifically looking for the best coding agent.
The options I'm considering are:
- Cursor Pro
- Windsurf Pro
- Google AI Pro (Gemini CLI/VS Code workflow)
- OpenCode (if it's worth considering)
A few things about me:
- Student in India, so value for money matters.
- I mainly build websites using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Node.js, etc.
- I expect to code several hours almost every day.
- I don't mind using VS Code if it means significantly higher usage limits.
- I care more about real-world agent capability and practical limits than benchmark scores.
My biggest concern is usage limits. Marketing pages are often vague, so I'd love to hear from people who actually use these tools daily.
For those of you who code professionally or use AI for hours every day:
Which plan gives you the most agentic coding for around $20/month?
Which one hits limits the least?
If you could only subscribe to one today, which would you pick and why?
Looking for real-world experiences rather than marketing claims. Thanks!
Claude Sonnet 5
So you’re telling me there is a promo price for Claude sonnet 5 and I decide to try it, small task. It wrote 66 lines of code and burnt 100% of the daily quota and 53% of the weekly? How does that work? One prompt? 66 lines of code? Simple code? How is this possible lol … great job :) amazing service thank you guys.
Now that your app is not called windsurf anymore, can us actual windsurfers reclaim this subreddit for... you know... windsurfing discussions?

FYI: Updated Terms of Service go into effect July 30, 2026
Read the new terms, or previous terms.
Here’s what changed between the April 3, 2025 version and the June 30, 2026 version:
Most important changes (read these first)
1. Data training default flipped — this is the big one.
- Old: Your data is never used for model training unless you opt in.
- New: Cognition may use your data for model training by default. You can only opt out — and only if you’re on a paid tier. On Teams, only an admin can opt out. (§3.3.1)
- Opting out now also triggers Zero Data Retention with model providers. A new definition of ZDR was added (§1.8), plus carve-outs: even under ZDR, data can still be retained/disclosed for abuse detection, safety/AUP review, or when legally compelled (§3.3.3).
2. Free tier loses IP indemnification.
- Old: Cognition’s IP-infringement indemnity applied to all customers.
- New: It applies only to paid tiers; free-tier users get no indemnification (§9.1).
3. Liability floor raised for Cognition.
- Old: Liability capped at fees paid in the prior 6 months.
- New: Capped at the greater of 6 months’ fees or US$100 — a small increase that mainly helps free/low-spend users who’d otherwise have a ~$0 cap (§10.2).
4. Class action waiver added.
- New §11.2 forces individual arbitration only — no class, collective, or representative actions. Also adds a formal Notice of Arbitration procedure with Cognition’s mailing address (§11.3).
Other notable additions
- Auto-renewal: Subscriptions now automatically renew, and you must cancel before the renewal date to avoid charges. The old version had no auto-renew language (§7.1).
- Output ownership clarified: Cognition now explicitly assigns Output to you, but warns Outputs are machine-generated, may be identical to what other customers receive, and you get no rights to others’ Outputs (§3.1).
- Output disclaimer (new §8.2): Explicitly disclaims liability for inaccurate Output — with special language that security/vulnerability analysis is “non-exhaustive” and not a substitute for your own review. Notable given Devin’s coding use case.
- Acceptable Use Policy: Now formally incorporated as a binding term; violations can trigger suspension/termination (§2.6).
- Age requirement: New — must be at least 13 years old.
- Export controls / sanctions: New §12.10 with detailed EAR/ITAR representations.
- California residents notice (new §13) and Exafunction/Windsurf provisions (new §14, plus intro language) — reflecting Cognition’s acquisition of Windsurf.
Smaller / structural changes
- Branding: “Devin Core and Devin Teams” → generic “Cognition Platform”; domain moved from cognition.ai to cognition.com; company address now 550 Third Street, SF.
- Termination scope: The subscription-termination section dropped its “Teams customers only” limitation — now applies to all (§7.2).
- Suspension: Added a new ground — risk of harm to other customers or to Service security/availability (§2.4).
- Payment disputes: Timing reworded — old version required notice 10 business days before payment was due; new version requires it within 10 business days after the fee is paid (§5.4).
- Personal data: DPA now applies automatically (posted at cognition.ai/dpa) rather than requiring separate execution (§4.2).
- Governing law: Added NY state/federal courts as fallback venue if arbitration doesn’t apply (§12.6).
- Transition clause: The new intro says material changes don’t take effect for 30 days, and the old terms control during that window.
Bottom line: The changes mostly shift risk toward the user — especially the opt-out-instead-of-opt-in data training default, loss of free-tier indemnity, auto-renewal, and the class action waiver. Paid users retain the most protections; free-tier users are the most exposed under the new terms.

Introducing Devin Security Swarm
Security Swarm is an orchestration of Devins that analyzes a real codebase the way a team of security researchers would.
Here are some highlights:
- Devin Security Swarm found 36 out of 50 real-world GHSA vulnerabilities at 30% lower cost than next most accurate alternative. See how we got these results - https://devin.ai/blog/security-swarm-eval
- We built Agentic MapReduce: a new architecture for whole-codebase reasoning. Read more about it here - https://devin.ai/blog/agentic-map-reduce

Is it me, or in the last week has every llm model gotten stupider?
I had a flow going, and was intentionally putting off the Devin update. The day finally came, and I had to restart my computer. I still hadn't hit the upgrade button, but when I opened windsurf for work it had transformed. No worries.. I took it in stride, hopped through some hoops, and went to work, but somehow all of my training, rules, and protocol had not only been forgotten, I have to keep reminding the AI regardless of rules, model updated knowledge base, and RAG — Retrieval-Augmented Generation protocol.. Many times I find myself having to re-word, and re-prompt several times to get a right response even though outside of Devin using the very same version, and model I immediately got my answers, and alignment. Devin desktop forgets between prompts, ignores rules, and just plain screws up all over the place while (happily) burning through tokens...
So unless anyone has a real timeline, and solution, I can't help but feel the windsurf sellers are just singing with glee... 'We got your money... We got your money!!' While we just suffer.
Get it together people. Even if you have to roll back. I think many are being patient, but with so many other options we're going to need a solid plan, commitment, disclosure, times, and dates. I for one will check back occasionally, but am taking the bulk of my work elsewhere for now, because it feels like trying to work it out with a disloyal spouse giving only 60%. So... Nope!
Claude Sonnet 5 now in available in Devin
Anthropic's latest model Claude Sonnet 5 scores higher than Claude Opus 4.8 on FrontierCode ( our own proprietary coding benchmark) but comes at a way cheaper price point!!!
Use Sonnet 5 in Devin Local and Devin CLI for 30% less price than Claude Sonnet 4.6 through 31st August.

What the HECK IS HAPPENING WITH DEVIN!?
I was literally counting the tokens today.
32k tokens on claude opus is 6% daily usage which is 5% weekly usage.
So, totally I get 640k tokens for a week. which is 2.5 Million tokens per month.
OPUS API cost is 5 dollars per million tokens!! And that is uncached,. Assuming Windsurf is always uncashed. So, I am paying $20 per month for getting back $12.5 ? That too I do not have the flexibility on when to use them.
It is still a LOOT by windsurf.
Devin Fusion
We just dropped Devin Fusion, a multi-model harness to cut the costs significantly without losing intelligence.
In our testing, it maintained frontier and Fable level performance at 35% lower cost.

Why the AI he don't see the pictures?
Hi guys, why the AI he don't see the pictures in the chat?

Daily usage eats 72% of weekly
Silently changed again, without any notice.
I'm not really sad about that, though - as you can guess I hadn't used Windsurf Devin this week, so it's the last day before reset.
Daily limit is still low, though - took me a few Claude Opus 4.6 Thinking prompts to hit the limit. Still about the same as Claude Pro single session limit.
What are you doing to reduce token usage in Devin ?
Our company has a fixed monthly ACU budget, so using high-end models regularly means I run out of credits within a week. We also can't use most open-source models (DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, etc.) because of security restrictions they are blocked.
I'm looking for practical ways to reduce token usage while using Devin. Are you using any extensions, GitHub repos, or workflows that help minimize token consumption without reducing output quality?
Any tips or best practices would be appreciated.
Kimi K2.7 and GLM 5.2 are available for free in Devin Desktop / CLI
Kimi K2.7 Code and GLM 5.2 have been available in Devin Desktop and CLI for a few days, but wanted to announce it here too!
Both perform strongly on FrontierCode Extended, our benchmark for real-world engineering tasks: GLM 5.2: 43.0% Kimi K2.7 Code: 39.5%
Pro/Max/Teams users can try both models for free until July 5
GLM 5.2 scores 43.0% and Kimi K2.7 scores 39.5% on FrontierCode Extended — placing them in a competitive tier alongside GPT-5.5 (44.8%) and Claude Opus 4.8 (51.8%).

Buying pro sub
I am thinking about buying a subscription, I come from codex, can't say I didn't enjoy it, but what I don't like is that I'm limited to openai and if it disappears in one moment I won't have anything else up my back. So I thought of trying Windsurf, heard that leading opensource models are free of charge, is that true?
From what I've seen in this sub people complain a lot about the quality/limits after rebranding to Devin, but I don't see much complains about getting limited on these models. Thoughts?
