Wollongong just gave me one of my favourite travel experiences

I visited Wollongong for the first time recently and I’m still thinking about how different it felt from what I expected. Being that close to Sydney, I thought it would feel a bit similar, but the whole place had such a different feel to it in a really good way. What genuinely shocked me though was how kind people were. I was with my niece and we were trying to find somewhere to eat, so we asked a local lady if she knew any good spots. She gave us a few suggestions, then somehow the conversation kept going and she ended up inviting us over because she’d made something special for her kids. We sat, ate, chatted, and they even showed us around afterwards. It was one of those random experiences you never expect to have and honestly it turned into one of the best trips I’ve had.

Local mortgage and finance brokers Wollongong review & recommendation?

Looking into buying property around Wollongong and realised how confusing the mortgage process can get once you start comparing lenders and interest rates. Curious if anyone has had really good experiences with local mortgage or finance brokers who were genuinely helpful and easy to deal with throughout the process.

Any Officers on here?

I have an issue which requires police intervention. However I'm not from australia therefore it makes them reporting process complicated. Are there any officers or anybody involved in law enforcement on here? If so it'd be appreciated if you could reach out to me so I could get some proper advice regarding the matter.

Job opportunities-Wollongong/Adelaide

Hey guys,

Bit of a long shot but thought I’d put this up here in case someone’s got a lead

I’m currently looking for work around Wollongong.. mainly customer service, sales rep, retail, admin, or disability support roles. Been applying pretty actively already, but the market’s rough at the moment so figured I’d try the community route too.

I’m open to pretty much anything people-facing and fast-paced. Happy to learn, adapt quickly, and just keen to get my foot in somewhere solid.

Also open to relocating to Adelaide or Melbourne if the opportunity’s right.

If anyone knows of places hiring, has a heads-up, referral, or even advice on where to apply, would genuinely appreciate it heaps.

Cheers legends!

good games: d&d night?

hi folks!! i was wondering if any frequenters of good games could let me know a few things :) first question being if they have a d&d night at all haha (for context, i used to play a lot with my friends, but as life got busy it's fizzled out :') i still love dnd though so i'd love to get back into it)

if they do have a dnd night, what does the usual crowd look like?? i'm a young-twenties autistic nonbinary person, so i'd love to know if the environment is both safe for me and easy to integrate into :)

are there any fees involved? are modules provided, or is it BYO? can you bring a group and play separately from others? as much detail as possible would be greatly appreciated :D tysm!!

Cheap shipping option from USA to Wollongong?

Wondering if anyone knows of any good options? I've sent a small gift item to a friend in the US, cost about $30 at Australia Post.

For them to send it back is looking like $100-200 or even more depending on the provider, including Fedex, UPS, USPS etc... If I have to cop it I will, but anyone got a better solution? Thank you.

Faulty Parking Compliance

Hi everyone,

Wollongong Council parking inspectors are trialling new technology that takes photos of cars’ position and license plates instead of marking the tyres.

https://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/council/news/articles/2026/jan-2026/council-to-trial-mobile-enforcement-system-to-tackle-parking-compliance-challenge

I recently heard of an experience where a parking ticket was incorrectly issued because the Parking Compliance system incorrectly flagged the car next to identical looking trees.

I’m a journalism student at UOW and wondering if anyone else has had this experience, as I would like to write a story about this change and the community’s opinions.

Please leave a comment or send me a message if you have had a similar experience or anything else to contribute!

Thank you 🙂

Kembla st theft

Has anyone had any devices stolen lately in Wollongong? I’ve had two of my Apple products stolen and show there at 26 Gipps Street North Wollongong. Has anyone had any luck from police retrieving their items back?

Wollongong is absolutely gorgeous

Visiting from the UK. Just cycled from Thirroul down to the lighthouse. Great cycle paths, everything clean and well maintained, the blue ocean, the escarpment, watching the surfers, joggers, yoga groups, all the bustling cafés, delicious food and coffee (got a burger - never seen beetroot on a burger before but it's surprisingly good..). Lots of eye candy on the coastal path too 😂. Great weather. Today was a good day

Moving to Wollongong area with baby - best suburbs?

Hi, I'm looking at moving to the Wollongong area with my 1 year old. It's hard for me to explore much with her in tow.

Hoping to get more bang for my buck than what I can in Sydney.. more space for bub in perhaps a villa vs apartment. The environment is important to me, both in terms of greenery (i would like to see the mountains) and locals. I don't want it to feel down and out.

What areas are best to safely raise my baby? Which areas should I avoid?

I liked Figtree (leafy, lots of birds and nice views) (although i may be getting priced out of here) and Farmborough Heights also looked nice.

Thank you!

Secret documents reveal preferred Australian nuclear submarine base (Port Kembla) and warn it could be a military target

What does everyone think about this? I suspect there will be stiff opposition, especially with the memory of the copper smelter and the carnage inflicted on the people of Port Kembla by that poisonous monstrosity. It was a good day when they blew up the stack.

Courier Services

Does anybody know a local or Sydney based refrigerated courier service that works with small businesses to delivery food items?

We’re wanting to offer Sydney/South coast delivery for our products as we offer niche items but are finding it hard to find a courier business that can help

Do they have any intention of fixing the travelator at fairy meadow Cole’s - a rant

Those things have been broken for like a year now? More even!? How does the centre management justify not fixing them? I’m annoyed.
And yes, I shop elsewhere but right now I’m annoyed
