Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table

I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.

Thursday August 6th, I received 6 deliveries of donations (clothes, food, toys, housewares, books, DVDs). By Saturday August 8th the table is empty.

Items that are in high demand:

FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS

CLOTHES

TOILETRIES

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS

TOYS

BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS

Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.

Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:

5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH

Donations can be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

ASSEMBLYMAN STEVEN RAGA'S OFFICE, 60-14 QUEENS BLVD., CELLAR, WOODSIDE

COOK'S ARTS & CRAFTS SHOPPE, 80-09 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

SCHWILLE-D'ANGELO FUNERAL HOME, 66-32 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH ADDABBO'S OFFICE, 66-85 73RD PLACE, MIDDLE VILLAGE

HARISCH STUDIOS, 57-44 MYRTLE AVE., 2ND FLOOR, RIDGEWOOD

For people who cannot donate in person I created an Amazon Wishlist:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU?REF\_=wl\_share

Thank you for all donations. And if you are near the Maspeth/Ridgewood border and are in need please check out table and take what you need. No questions asked. Please spread the word. Thanks.

I pulled the whole Associated circular on Roosevelt Ave this week. Chicken breast is $1.99 a pound.

Boneless chicken breast is $1.99 a pound at the Associated at 59-15 Roosevelt Ave, through Thursday, no card, no minimum. The only other Queens address at $1.99 this week is the Met Food on Eliot Ave in Middle Village. After those two, Queens starts at $2.49.

Five more under a dollar a pound:

green cabbage $0.59

Vidalia onions $0.99

Idaho potatoes $0.99

eggplant or green and yellow squash $0.99

cut watermelon quarters $0.99

Three prices need a family pack:

whole chicken legs $1.29 a pound

shoulder steaks $7.99 a pound

48 ounce Nature's Pride ground turkey $12.99

I also found Springer Mountain whole chickens at $1.99 a pound, so a $1.99 sign at that case is not always the breast. Their bone-in split breast is $2.99 a pound, a dollar more than the boneless.

Whole pork shoulder $1.49 a pound, shank half $1.59, butt half $1.69.

I pulled 402 items out of the 8/14 to 8/20 ad with a tool I built. What is printed and what rings up can differ, so look at the shelf tag.

Venues for Baby Shower

Just reaching out to know if anyone has had any experience with doing a baby shower in the area? I’ve reached out and visited a few locations near Broadway and Ditmars. We’re hoping to take care of the food for our guests and do a cash bar. We’re expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 people. Some of the locations that have party rooms are a little bit too small for that amount of people.

So far I’ve visited Oliver’s, las margaritas, cronen and phelans, hay chihuahua, albas pizza, victory garden cafe. I’ve had a few that I’ve liked from that bunch. We’ve attended one at the Bonnie but that’s a little steep. I’m not against trying wood side or sunnyside as well.

I’m also just wondering if just setting up tables n chairs in Central Park or Astoria park is our best option…just seems like with some places they charge an exhorbitant room/rental fee for services we’re not really looking for…we’re bringing 45 people for a brunch so I’m sure some restaurant/staff would appreciate the extra sales.

If anyone has any experiences with hosting large groups for venues in the area I’d be grateful to hear some kind of advice…

High school junior in Woodside looking for part-time work

I’m a local 17 yr old high school junior looking for part time work for when the school year starts. I’ve already applied to the big name chain places but no one seems to be interested. Are there any local businesses in the area that are in need of extra staff? I have prior experience working at a food market vendor handling the register, working with food, and dealing with customers. If you know a place that hires high schoolers in the area, even just a name, I'd appreciate it.

Sinkhole at 30th Ave and 50th Street

The sinkhole at the intersection of 30th Ave and 50th Street. Despite contacting the DOT, the DEP, and Council Member Tiffany Cabán's office, and researching the fourteen closed 311 complaints over the past month, the issue remains unresolved, with complaints being passed to other departments.

The hole has expanded from the size of a quarter to over 24 inches wide and 36 inches deep, with a large cavern forming underneath. Currently, the city's only response has been a red spray-painted circle and a shifting construction barrel.

This situation has created a significant traffic hazard. The Q18 bus toward Astoria must pull into oncoming traffic to avoid the hole, prompting requests to adjust two bus stops. Furthermore, eastbound traffic toward Hobart regularly refuses to yield to westbound vehicles, resulting in severe road rage and safety concerns.

While a week of investigation is understandable, a month of inaction poses a serious liability. Any assistance  to expedite this repair and ensure the structural integrity of the roadway would be greatly appreciated.

What can we do about Skillman’s Screamer?

Seriously, this person screams and bangs on their window almost every day, night and morning. I sleep with earplugs in both ears and still wake up to this damn shit, last night at 3 am even though I don't even live in the same building.

What can we do about this? Police car has been many times in front of the building, but this person had stopped screaming then (when the police are in the front). What can I do? Do I just have to move out if this kind of thing gets on my nerves?

I guess the screaming person needs help as well.

My electric bill.

I live alone in Woodside and my electric bill is $449 this month. Supply of $183, delivery of $265. conedison, building is maybe 60-70'ish years old.

Delivery 1020.00 kWh @ 20.701¢/kWh

I've got refrigerator, a 40w lightbulb, a television, a computer, and a stand up a/c. I barely use the rest of my apartment.

I'm trying to understand wtf is going on or if that is just where rates are now.
