Syncing to Onedrive "Access Denied"

Setting up Zorin and so far I've liked it quite a bit - this is far smoother than when I tried to use Mint back in college.

That said, I'm trying to use the "Online Accounts" option to sync with OneDrive. I did the procedure for gdrive, and it worked just fine. However, no matter how many times I've gone through to log in (clicking the microsoft 365 + onedrive, clicking sign in, signing in, etc), it'll add the account, but when I navigate to the drive in the file explorer an error comes up with "Access Denied." I have been searching for a reason why and haven't found anything. Anyone else experience this?

Good and free alternatives to RustDesk?

I normally use RustDesk when I support my mum across the country. However, RustDesk is apparently experiencing so many attack currently that she now has to log on for me to go online on her computer. She has no account with them and is not getting one.

Question: Which free alternatives would you recommend to use on Linux? She's on Linux Mint Cinnamon (X11) and I'm on Zorin OS (Wayland).

I reckon I'll run into the same issue on my youngest daughter's Windows 11 computer. She lives nearby so it's not as big of an issue.

ALWAYS default to X11?

Ever few releases my login screen seems to decide to default to Wayland rather than X11. Every time I use Wayland I have problems: My second monitor is blank and windows have a weird rectangular overlay/underlay especially when remoting in to anyother computer.

So, how can I lock X11 in as my preferred video API?

Zorin OS 18.1 gave my MacBook Pro 2017 a second life 💻✨

I had a MacBook Pro 2017 (14,3) sitting unused for over a year. macOS simply wouldn’t install anymore — both macOS Recovery and a fresh USB installer failed during installation because of a hardware check. The culprit appears to be the Touch Bar hardware.
Recently, I discovered Zorin OS 18.1 and decided to give it a try.

And honestly, it brought the MacBook back to life. 🙌
✅ Installation worked
✅ System boots normally
✅ Keyboard, trackpad, Wi-Fi, sound, display & other hardware work great
❌ Touch Bar is the only major thing that doesn’t work
If you have an old 2016/2017 MacBook Pro stuck because macOS hardware checks are failing, don’t throw it away yet.
Zorin OS 18.1 might give it a completely new life.
Sharing this in case it helps someone else revive their old Mac. 🔧🐧

Unknown bateery draining when shut down

Hello, was wondering if anyone can help me out here. I have Zorin OS 18.1 Core installed on my laptop, the model is the HP Pavillion 15-cw1511sa. I have recently been experiencing issues where i can charge my laptop to full or any percentage while switch on or powered off, but when i come back to teh laptop at a later date even if its 12 or so hours later, from 100 percent its managed to drain to around 80. This was while shut downa nd powered off. I am not sure if this is a new issue for me or if anyone esle is experiencing similar. Any help as to how i can fix this would be greatly appreciated as i have really enjoyed my experience with Zorin so far! And i dont want this to become an on going problem for me (It could be to do with the fact its 5 years old but the life on it is still pretty good and way to good for it to be draining this fast while off, however it doesnt make this theory impossible). Many thanks!

New Zorin Pro User - Wow! Amazingly Smooth!

Just (Aug 2026) renewed an old HP ENVY x360 convertible laptop (replaced swollen battery and replaced damaged nvme drive) and instead of reinstalling Windows 10 decided to try Zorin OS 18. I have tried to use Linux for decades...never really settling into it. But this time it was different, very different: it was the smoothest install EVER (I installed the Core version first) and the smoothest initial user experience! After less than 24 hours, I jumped in with the Pro version as I think this laptop WILL BE VERY USEFUL AGAIN and wanted to have all the additional apps and themes. Thank you Zorin OS development team!!! I now have the motivation to learn a bit more about Linux. Also planning to use this laptop to learn FreeCAD (I will be leaving Fusion 360) and possibly to edit videos too.

Do you mind sharing your thoughts if you are in a similar situation (new Zorin OS user), what do you love about it, what cons or issues you have faced so far?

  1. Blender

  2. Video editing

  3. Extremely light wight gaming (2d games and old games)

  4. Note taking

Pretty much it. Please recommend something for me. Thank you very much.

Why is it Red :c

Half my screen decided to just be red?!

It otherwise works, my mouse can be seen even on the red side. I think its software, because my Windows install on the second NVME still works. So since I wanted to anyway, I just reinstalled everything and switched to Zorin just because. But it happend again.

Has anybody any idea on this? Why would it happen again after a complete wipe?

Thanks

Additional Info: My second screen works normally It is now black but still the same issue

Solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/zorinos/s/yb87YxuDjB

That was very quick, thanks to everyone. Apparently it was bad firmware and I needed to roll back an update.

Bizzare freezing issue whilst booting on Zorin OS

Hello, I have a confusing problem and I don't know what to do. I also tried to get help from Claude, which did work kinda, but eventually even Claude gave up.

The problem is that for some reason my system freezes after I unlock LUKS, right when the Zorin text appears. It's not fully frozen animations play normally, but nothing happens. Shortcuts don't work either, nothing works.

The first time this happened, I thought maybe it was an issue caused by Secure Boot and the automatic LUKS unlock with TPM2, which I set up a few days ago. So I disabled Secure Boot and rebooted. The time before, it had frozen before unlocking Secure Boot; this time I could unlock it, but it froze right after.

Then I tried nomodeset, which worked, it actually booted and the issue seemed gone. But then I booted again without nomodeset, and to my surprise, it still worked. So I tried enabling Secure Boot again, and for some reason that also worked. This went on for a few reboots, but after about 3-4 reboots, I had the same problem again and this time, neither disabling Secure Boot nor setting nomodeset helped.

So I booted into recovery mode. That didn't help either it froze right on the screen where I can choose what to do next (resume boot normally, or something else).

I then tried a different kernel, thinking maybe it was a kernel problem. I pinned the 6.17 something kernel, since with the 7.x kernel I have issues resuming after suspend when opening my laptop lid. I thought maybe it was a kernel issue, but it's not, same problem with the 7.x kernel.

I even thought maybe it was a hardware problem, since you never know, so I ran the Lenovo diagnostics tool and it found no problems. There was also no issue booting and using live Linux distros from a USB stick.

I need help I have no ideas left.

What are you running (distro), and how do you do your creative work?

SO, boom:

- ZorinOS (Long live this beautiful and stable distro), I have an affinity for MacOS and this gets me really close to that experience, both visually, and feel wise. IYKYK

- For photo editing: RapidRaw, this has so much potential!!! If I was an app developer I'd contribute, I need this to keep growing, and for C1 to notice and bring their butts over to linux.

- For video editong: Good ole Davinci Resolve, enough said. Davinci as it is is better than premiere, please prove me wrong.

This works for me, right now, but I wouldn't complain if we could have photoshop. I know what people say, GIMP is the same, sure but I grew up with photoshop so its like a muscle memory thing.

GAHHHHHH give us more options. I wish I knew enough about programming to just make my own proprietary photoshop just for me.

Does anyone know why ZorinOS isn't compatible with my PC?

Hi. I'm trying to install ZorinOS on a PC where I just installed a 200GB SSD (replacing a corrupted hard drive), along with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590T CPU @ 2.00GHz with integrated graphics.

Once I install it, I get the following error:

(Photo 1)

"E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)"

This has happened both times I tried to install it.

In both instances, I ignored it, continued with the installation, and it finished installing.

After ZorinOS was installed, the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers were missing, but since the PC has an Ethernet port, it didn't really matter to me.

Two days after the installation, the system became corrupted, and I got this screen

(Photo 2):

BusyBox v1.36.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.36.1-6ubuntu3.1) built-in shell (ash)

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) _

When that appeared, I followed the advice found on Reddit, but it only worked partially; when I boot up the system again, only the built-in system applications run—it won't even let me open Brave.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem or why it's happening?

For now, I've installed Windows 10, as it's the system that runs reliably for me without these issues.

Need help in transitioning

I need help moving to Zorin, my Windows is corrupted and keeps eating my space whenever connected to the internet. Moved most of my stuff to external drive and Windows took that space. I've got 25gb left, can I partition my drive to install zorin then migrate my file to it or just f**k it and delete everything on my PC to install Zorin?

Almost 8 months of only ZorinOS at home and counting.

Upgraded my set-up over the christmas break last year, and decided that was the right time to finally kick windows out too. While i troubleshoot windows for users all day at work, i hadn't had much experience with linux prior, so i needed something stable and easy to deal with at home.

I can confirm that Zorin has been exactly what i wanted.

There have been some issues along the way for sure, including a weird problem with my main monitor never waking up from sleep properly, but rarely have i encountered anything that needed extensive troubleshooting-
-especially surprising since i had heard of issues with NVIDIA GPUs, and i had just upgraded to a 5060ti, But that worked fine out the box.

_______
Games

I don't really play a lot of the big popular games, 'nor retro either, but what i have so far played has been quite alright:

-The Elder Scrolls Online, as a stand-alone via lutris, had some minor issues, but nothing more complicated than adjustments on Windows would ever be.

-Helldivers 2 on steam however, "It just works"!

-*40k Darktide ran super smooth, but then suddenly crashed at random intervals. It has been a bit of a nightmare to get working, but i'm pretty sure the problem is as much with the game's engine as linux itself.
__________

Other Apps

While i don't do much in terms of niche PC uses at home these days, any apps i have 'missed' from windows have been easy to find a replacement for.

My headphones and Keyboard, Fractal Scape and 'BE QUIET!' Dark mount respectively, rely on apps for additional functionality and have worked great with the webapps via brave/waterfox. With only minor function loss for the keyboard due to lack of 'proper' app access.

The closest I've come to a proper App gripe; is not being as comfortable with the choice of offline flac/mp3 players as i was with MusicBee on Windows.
Strawberry is the one i have ended up with, although it feels much less intuitive than the former, and can be finicky to organise at my desired window scale.

____

So overall i will be continuing to use Zorin as my daily driver, and see no reason to stop doing so in the near future.
(At most i will be using my secondary mini-pc to explore some other Distros :3)

How to lock NVIDIA driver and kernel update

So after a painful experience, I found that kernel 7.0 from Zorin does not play well with llama cpp. It somehow required more ram distribution that my laptop cannot handle. I had confirmed this after a painful experience of basically trashing my system and unable to boot after thinking it was an Nvidia driver problem.

I had now restored my system by doing a fresh install (it was so broken, that it was easier to nuke it all). I also confirmed that llama cpp was able to load the Qwen 3.6 model on my 8 gb of VRAM + 16 gb of system ram, it barely fit, but it run pretty ok at 25 to 30 tokens / sec on Kernel 6.17 which is now my default boot order in GRUB.

Now how do I lock down the system update of the kernel and the nvidia driver? as I learned those 2 are deeply connected. Ideally I would like the update the rest of the system except for those.

--------------

so far in the zorin os update menu I had unchecked proprietary driver for device and I also just request for security and recommended update only instead of all update. So is this enough?

Finally, the wait is over, I set up Linux for personal use

It feels like a dream come true. I bought a laptop three days ago, and it's my first Linux setup.

I am gonna explore Linux now.

Any suggestions for me? I am a developer, so I have built and deployed software on Linux (Basic Ubuntu) before, but it's my first time using Linux for personal use and doing UI customization.

Looking forward to installing Zorin OS

Hello everyone!

I'm going to buy a Lenovo Yoga 7 2-1 Laptop for my master's degree which will commence mid September. I want to use Zorin OS for personal usage as after my masters I will be going all in Linux.

How easy is it to rotate between Windows 11 and Zorin OS? I never installed Linux before. When I start up the laptop, will it show two options and which one to start?

Full guidance please and I never installed Linux and used Windows Virtual Machine.

My plan: get the laptop and install Zorin OS without removing Windows OS.

Use both till I finish master's and then go all in with Zorin OS.
