The mystics are the second bad guys of the dark crystal! If they sacrificed themselves they could’ve easily ended the skeksis reign. They also knew that for the prophecy all gielflings would need to basically become extinct for them to become 1 again. They chose to wait for 2 random gielflings who are possibly the last survivors instead of sacrificing themselves, saving Thra.
Also, couldnt they just have taken the shard and put it in the Crystal? HERE ME OUT
The skeksis cant do anything to them as what they to do the mystics they do to themselves. So couldnt they just walk in the castle, threatening the skeksis of pain if they don’t let them through them go to the crystal. The skeksis would have no choice but to let them.
So thats why I think they’re the second bad guys for letting Thra die, fight me

Season 2 idea for AOR!
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF MY IDEAS FOR SEASON 2 AND POSSIBLY 3 OF THE DARK CRYSTAL?!?!
I definitely think season 2 should start with rian, brea and all gielfling clans trying to find deet and help her. Eventually, they find her but she’s very broken. Maybe mother aughra can teach her how to use the darkness and control it.
This season all leads up to another massive war, as season 1 was also leading up to, with the stronger skesis and all clans, including the ascendancy and lore. I think it would be cool for deet to make a massive sacrifice, channeling all her darkness and using it against the skeksis. This makes the skeksis very weak, forcing them to go and hide in their castle years whilst healing and rebuilding army. This also makes deet very weak, putting her on the ground and making all gielflings run towards her, specifically rian, who picks her up and begs her to stay. Everyone believes the darkness has killed her until they realise that she actually released all the darkness to the skeksis, destroying most of it and taking it out of her. This causes her to survive and everyone celebrates, possibly deet and rian kiss.
This could possibly lead into a series 3, showing what happened after the war with gielflings rebuilding and maybe rian and deet have a baby (Jen!!) and possibly brea goes on to find someone and have Kira!!
Sadly this series takes a sad turn to make the film accurate. The skeksis come back but with more beetles and bats this time (as shown in the film) and slowly most gielfling go extinct, with brea, deet and rian fighting to the death, sacrificing themselves but saving many kids (including kira and Jen) where Jen gets dropped off with the mystics and kira is
hidden. Slowly the downfall happens, but this gives all fans an explanation on what happens and a nice jump to the film, also confirming rian and deet are parents to Jen!!! Aswell as Kira being daughter to brea! This would be amazing but these are just my ideas I wanted to share and very curious to hear other ideas and feedback!
Who else wants age of resistance to continue?!?!
