I took my bike apart for the first time ever to attempt a deep clean. In November I took the cranks off. I got lazy and left it hang in my basement for the last six months. I never tried turning the spindle at the time. I expected it would be smooth and spin, but when I turn it, it feels rough and sounds crunchy. Is this normal or did something dry out from the cranks being off so long? What should I do to service this?

I just watched Park Tool's video on bottom bracket identification and they're like "There are only 4000 different kinds and you can destroy your bike if you guess the wrong one so good luck!"
