It's a common issue for this generation of hoods to kink in the middle when closing. Curious if you've found a way you make them actuate more freely.

...I had a "friend" show off my project to someone while I wasn't around. Rather than pushing back and down on the hood, he just pulled straight down and kinked the hood at it's mounting surface to the hinge.
