Driving in Brazil (speed cameras)
I am Canadian, visiting Brazil (great country). Driving from Rio to Ouro Preto yesterday was an "interesting" experience.
In Canada (and most countries where I've traveled by car) speed limits depend on road type and rarely deviate (ex: 100kmh on highways, 50kmh in cities).
Based on yesterday's drive, in Brazil speed limits are in constant flux and strictly enforced with cameras. "Following the flow" isn't working well because many drivers exceed the posted limit between cameras (and then slow to a crawl:). I've probably got several tickets until I figured out how to adjust.
Google maps warns about cameras but the audio warning doesn't include posted and actual speeds.
I plan on switching to Waze but am curious about what might be a better strategy.
Please note that I am not trying to evade the system or to aggressively drive at the maximum legal speed. I simply wouldn't keep driving at 60kmh while all cars overtake me at 100, because I've missed a posted speed.
