Important Snapseed features missing after reinstall? (Smart AI Blurr , Motion Blurr & Color Wheel gone!)

Hey everyone,

I noticed something really weird today and wanted to check if anyone else is facing the same issue.

Before uninstalling the app, my Snapseed had some really cool features like: Smart Ai blurr Color Grading Wheel And a few other advanced controls like Motion Blurr.

I had to uninstall the app recently for a quick cleanup, but when I reinstalled it today... all those features are completely GONE! 🤯

Now it's just the super basic old blur options. No color wheel, no motion Blurr , nothing. It feels like I've been downgraded to an older version, even though I downloaded the latest update from the Play Store.

A few questions for you guys:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this?
  2. Were these features part of a Server-Side A/B Testing flag that got reset when I uninstalled?
  3. Did Google silently remove these features in a recent update?

app version- 4.1.4.966106950 updated on 17 Aug.

Would really appreciate any insight. Thanks!

Cyberpunk edits just got easier....The Chromatic Aberration tool just landed in Snapseed.

Snapseed just sneaked in a new feature in their July 29 beta update - meet the new 'Chromatic Aberration' tool.

Up until now, we had to fix this manually using that Curve + double exposure hack, and just hope for the best. It was kind of a hassle. Now there's an actual dedicated tool for it. Just move the slider. Way faster and easier.

Have you guys tried it yet? Drop your before/afters below

Snapseed QR Look — Why can't we just scan from device gallery?

Hey u/Giles-O , u/snapseed team , quick request — can we please get a simple gallery import option for QR Looks?

Right now it only opens the camera and that's kinda frustrating when the QR is already saved in my gallery.

Just a tiny "import from gallery" button when scanning would make life so much easier. Anyone else stuck with this?

Would love to see this in the next update! 🙏

Why doesn’t the Blur tool have a Smart Subject and Background masking option?

Currently, blurring backgrounds in Snapseed is painfully manual and time-consuming. We have to carefully position elliptical and linear shapes and hope for the best. For complex subjects (like hair, irregular shapes), it's nearly impossible to get clean results.

Solution-

AI-powered Smart Subject Masking — One tap, and the AI detects the subject automatically. Just like: Google Photos (Portrait Blur) Lightroom Mobile (AI Masking)

Google already has this AI tech (uses in the Google Photos) would save users hours of editing time Keep Snapseed competitive with other free editors Snapseed's manual controls + AI masking = PERFECT combo

The wait is almost over: Snapseed 4.0 is finally coming to Android.

Hey everyone,

Something truly unexpected just happened. Snapseed — the Google-owned photo editor that most of us assumed was abandoned — is getting a massive 4.0 update on BOTH Android and iOS this week.

Here's the full context and timeline of what's been happening:

1.The official Snapseed YouTube channel (@Snapseed) hasn't uploaded a single video in roughly 9 years. They just uploaded full playlist of Snapseed 4 tutorial - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9rZkmycOZA8A4dE4tUNEbNU0a7YEStKX&si=a71kAvC7i6YbTrfO

2.The news comes from an Instagram post by Giles Ochs, Snapseed's product lead. Check out the profile : https://www.instagram.com/snapseed_giles/

This is genuinely one of the most surprising comebacks in app history. A Google app that was practically dead for years is now getting pro camera controls, film emulations, HSL grading, masking, and QR-shareable presets — all for FREE. No subscription. No ads.

Snapseed 4 has a clean, minimal, and modern UI. Honestly, it feels designed for people who want quick editing without getting lost in too many options.

Simple layout: The screen is mostly focused on the photo preview, which is great because you don’t feel cluttered.

tool sections: At the bottom, you can see categories like ALL / REFINE / FIX / STYLE. That makes it easy to understand where to go depending on what you want (enhance, correct, or apply effects).

Stack edit option on the editing screen so you can easily access all your editing.

Smart masking option that can smartly detect subject and background very pretty

Added new smart Color option so you can now colour grade your photos based on different colour mood and you can add custom color from photo.

Flawless , responsive and very smooth ..

Overall a very good update and hope Snapseed will continue make himself better day by day...
