Foreigners Starting Not For Profit Charities

I'm a 48 year old Australian guy, have travelled throughout the Philippines extensively on at least 10 individual visits. I am not naive to the countries culture, I love it. I have a background in business systems development and marketing. I am thinking about doing something different and would love to start a NFP/NGO helping children with medical conditions get help.

Has anyone had any experience in registering a NFP/NGO in the Philippines? What challenges should I expect, is it possible for a foreigner and should I hire a Philippino solicitor? I understand there may be foreign ownership and board structure rules. I have many high quality Philippino friends and networks. Would love to hear anyones thoughts or experience. I will be self funded from Australian income.
