Has anyone just sort of breezed through rotator cuff surgery?

As the title says. 74m , active even with the injury except for lifting above horizontal with my injured shoulder. Just curious as all I ever read is the doom and gloom but eventual recovery.
Thanks

Taxi La Guardia

Thanks to all for the pre warning regarding taxis and random folks asking if we needed a ride Now if I could have been warned about how slick the floors are at the luggage carousel. My wife’s bag was so loaded when I went to sling it off another bag side swiped me and I got to roll on the on the floor 😆

Second thoughts

Hi. I know you can’t really give medical advice but I’m reaching out anyways I’m a 74m. Good shape , active etc…. Fell at a 5 K and dislocated my shoulder and tore all 4 tendons 3 of them are rated 1-2 level tears and one is a 3 massive tear ( seems they rate tears 1-4). Other than lifting anything heavier than a small book above my shoulder or putting dishes back in the cupboard I have no pain to speak of.

If you’ve had the procedure have you ever looked back and thought this wasn’t worth it for the long recovery ? I’m scheduled in a few weeks and quite frankly my head is really confused about this.

Thanks for any thoughts

Off the wall question

So I’ve been practicing working with my non dominate arm for my upcoming surgery on my dominate arm. How in the heck is everyone shaving without slicing your face up? Grow a beard for a short time? Or electric razors ?

Thanks

Some fine tuning

Hi. Surgery is in 6 weeks. Have followed all the advice that’s been posted up on here as best I could. I need some directions and some fill in advice that I couldn’t find that I know I read on here.
I got the Don Joy III sling as recommended

I got the butt wiper thingy

I have a toilet seat riser from my wife’s hip surgery. I need the height to get up from the seat and I normally use my dominate ( surgical arm) to help.

I got pillows to set me up on my reclining couch seat ( the buttons are on my non surgical side) so I don’t have to move much.

I got the polar ice machine, was a little pricier than the others but I recognized the brand. I watched the video and it says to wear a shirt underneath. So two questions regarding that. I saw a post, that I can’t find that mentioned some sort of after surgery t shirt(?) that’s easier to get in and off. Does anyone recall or know the name? Also do I put my sling on over the ice machine?

How do you get the shirt on and off if you are suppose to keep the shoulder immobile?

While most if the postings are generally positive, as one can be and thanks for that spirit, has anyone been surprised with how quickly they recovered? Is a quick recovery a pipe dream?

I know that no one can give medical advice but from a personal perspective has anyone used Alieve vs ibuprofen? I have what’s called a Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver and ibuprofen isn’t the best for that.

For the record 74m pretty active long distant runner

Thanks for any insight.

Right Shoulder Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair vs
debridement, tuberoplasty

I’ve been told I’m a good candidate for the arthroscopic repair which is scheduled. Is the other a shoulder replacement? I looked in my records and I couldn’t find near the details other posts about tendons etc. I was diagnosed with a glenoid fracture in the ED
Thanks

Either or?

So I just finished posting up and getting great feedback on a planned upcoming arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery

Quick recap. 74 male. Good shape and pass for younger. Long distant runner etc…. I have like 80% use of my torn dominate arm. Cut grass , help around the house, volunteer at our local hospital a pretty full life except when my shoulder gives me a hiccup. All the tendons are torn and one has a major tear , they gave it a 3 on a 4 scale ( no clue). My dilemma, after reading some great insights to help me prepare for and post surgery is this. If given the choice would you do the arthroscopic procedure or go with a replacement? Months of recovery for arthroscopic doesn’t sound like fun, given my pretty full lifestyle , but I don’t want to screw my self for when I’m older.
I qualify for either. Thanks for any insight or thoughts.

Sling post rotator cure surgery

So I was curious. After the initial 3 days of hell do you need to keep your sling on at all times? I was wondering if I could just lay my arm on my lap when I’m sitting or driving? I’m sure my doctor will give out a canned do this or don’t do that but what is real life experience?
Thanks

Hello. Reddit has given me answers to multiple questions I didn’t know I needed to know.
So I’m about 2 months out from arthroscopic surgery on my right ( dominate ) shoulder. Injured about a year ago in a 5K race guiding a sight impaired runner. I’m 74 m good shape and an avid runner.

My first question is now , didn’t know this, is about an ice machine ? Saw a post on here regarding one. Confused how or why or where ? Won’t my fridge work for that ?

Next. Showering. Have stitches from the surgery Assuming they use that liquid bandage to protect the area but what gave you discovered to help ?

Not a fan of Tylenol or aspirin ( have non alcoholic fatty liver) lol haven’t had a drink since 87 but diet and exercise helps maintain a stable liver.
What do you do for exercise other than PT? Am I being mentally unreasonable to think that worse case I can go for long walks ? Will I be able to jog initially during recovery?

How long did the initial pain last that required heavy medication? Oxy heavy in my book but not a fan of pain at all.

Did you have any flexibility at all in the beginning? I’m sure I’m not the only one who sees the surgeon the following day followed by immediate PT

How soon after did you feel safe to drive? Did you use a sling for driving or just lay your arm on your lap?

For anyone that uses it did CBD help at all? Did THC help at all ?

Thinks that’s it for now. Thanks for any help
