Community Updates: Low Community Karma Filter
As mentioned in an earlier announcement, the mod team has been working on an Automod rule that helps us keep users with ill intentions outside of the community. Therefore the following rules will be added to Automoderator's command list:
Low Comment Karma - filter
- COMMENTS will be filtered based on the amount of karma a user gained from posting COMMENTS within the subreddit.
Low Subreddit Combined Karma for Submissions - filter
- POSTS will be filtered based on the amount of karma a user gained from making COMMENTS or POSTS within the subreddit.
being filtered for "low karma" no submissions will be straight up deleted by automod, however they won't be public for other users until the mod team manually review and approve the content, meaning that trolls or spam bots won't be able to cause harm inside the community if they never had a positive interaction with us prior to this automod update.
In order to have problematic users filtered, we had to set the required karma amount to a number somewhat above 0, which means that "lurkers" or users who just recently found the community but wish to join might get filtered as well. The currently set karma amount is low, but up to change based on how the filter perform!
Please note that the team having to implement this filter sooner then intended due to the high influx of trolls/rage baiters, we didn't have time to fully test it. We're still working on it, and it might take time to correct things, as well as approving content that ended up being filtered. We will try to approve submissions as soon as we can, but we will also spend some time checking if the filter was actually correct or made a mistake.
