Low Elevation Gain Backpacking Hikes - south side

Hi all,

Hope you’re staying safe with the fires. I think the answer is none but thought I’d ask y’all after spending awhile checking elevation gains on hikes on the south side of Big Sur. Taking someone out backpacking soon for their first time and am trying to avoid large elevation gain, especially in the beginning of the hike. I know they’d be instantly turned off from it hiking Salmon Creek for example. Goal is to hike about 4 miles out, but between that and the attempt at avoiding elevation I’m struggling to find any good ideas. Appreciate any advice!

Small Packsize Tent - $400 Budget

Hi all,

hope you’re staying cool and out of smoke this season. I’m putting together a compact backpacking kit and am stuck on figuring out what to do for a tent. I’m prioritizing packsize first which I know for the most part should be a problem with any ul tents but I feel advertised packed sizes are pretty inconsistent when looking at weight and tent size so thought I’d ask people actually using these tents. I’m interested in trekking poles or even semi-freestanding tents. For semi-freestanding I’m looking at pack size minus the stakes, which has been a very hard statistic to find on these kind of tents so definitely appreciate any thoughts there. Thinking these might help with number 2 priority. Priorities are:

  1. pack size

  2. ease of setup

  3. avoiding condensation

  4. height/comfort

Appreciate any advice!

Shoe Recs for Blundstone Wearer

my go-to camping shoe the last few years has been an old pair of blundstones. I also regularly wear them for 6-10 mile days hikes with no problem. I assume though that taking them backpacking would be a mistake.

Im aware that trail runners seem to be the defacto backpacking shoe, so I’m not opposed to looking at them over boots, but would be curious to know of any recommendations from people who also enjoy blundstone-like boots. So far I’ve tried a pair of topo mtn racers, but only at the store so can’t really get a good gauge on them long term. Thanks for any advice!

additional note: I’m very flat footed

Looking for Publicly Traded Company with Fraud in Past 10 Years

Anyone know of any good publicly traded company fraud cases from the last 10 or so years that might have some irregularities in their 10-K? I’d like to assign to students a “find the fraud” case by having them analyze three companies‘ 10-k’s in an effort to find which one of the three has committed fraud. It doesn’t even need to be obvious or visible in their financials. It’s more about getting them to think about how to search through financials to make an argument.

My original company turns out wasn’t public during their fraudulent years. Trying to use a US company as well so am overlooking Wirecard.

Appreciate any help on this!

edit: Thank You all for your input and perspectives. I got a lot of ideas, not just for this assignment but for my other class I’ll be sticking with in future terms so know you’ve hopefully helped some future accountants with your time. To those that just responded to use ai or that the students can just shortcut it with ai, I would recommend not wasting your efforts trying to explain that to technologically literate people at this point. It’s just an obvious fact that doesn’t need repeating. Not everything is about how efficiently you can do something, which is a big problem in accounting In my opinion. We give up the foundational hard and soft skills in our industry by thinking more about how quickly can this get done rather than what can I or someone below me learn from spending the time to engage with it.
