90’s DW Collectors re-wrap/re build.
I gathered a set of 90’s DW collectors shells for dirt cheap on eBay last year.
The 13” and 16” were previously wrapped in black which was whatever. The 22” kick drum however used to be a purple oil stain. Now turned brown over the decades, some purple could still be seen where the hardware attaches to the shell. Which got me thinking… wouldn’t it be cool to make this kit purple again?
So using a set of black hardware I’d previously collected all we needed was a wrap!! My plan for this kit is to use it as a backline/ touring kit that’s gonna be beat up in the road which is why I went for a wrap instead of a stain. BUT since I also wanna use this kit in town and record with it I also added an additional 18” floor tom shell.
This wrap is from bestdrumwrap.com and is called “Purple Ormosia Fade”

Remopercussion Clear Controlled Sound heads on top and ambassador clear on the bottoms . FOR NOW, I’m gonna put purple emperor color tones on it but fedex decided to lose a package with the last 2 heads I needed so that’s a bummer :(
Anyways this kit looks absolutely phenomenal in all kinds of lighting and I can’t wait to gig with it!! Sounds great too, everybody knows old shells sound amazing and this kit is no exception!!

So a few months ago I acquired the 22” shell since it had parts on it that I needed to collect for a different kit I’m building. Then I saw the 13” shell and the 16”shell on eBay for less than $150 so I said screw it and picked those up. So I decided to plan an entirely different kit build to my planned roster and build a “touring” kit. One that I’m gonna be okay with beating up a little and taking it on the road since I got all the shells for dirt cheap. All are 90’s era DW collectors shells (except the 18”)
Decided to get an 18” floor tom shell because why not, I still wanna gig with it in town and record with it. (And I hate 14” floor toms with a passion)
All the parts are ready to go!! Just waiting on the finish. It’s gonna be a wrap, it’s almost here. What do you think I’m wrapping this kit in? (DO NOT LOOK AT MY PREVIOUS POST OR YOU’LL RUIN THE MAGIC) I wanna see what yall would wrap this kit in.
