Sexism or realism?
So I was talking to a coworker of mine about how companies have very less paternity leaves which forces a woman to take care of herself and the newborn all alone , and how situations like this make sure the gender based role division stays . We also talked about how companies at a certain age while hiring ask women about their family planning and how many times they reject applications solely on the basis of that detail , how they dont want an employee they need to give maternity leave to , and how unfair that is.
At which point my coworked pointed out that if you were a company owner and think from strictly an economic pov they would gain more profit from hiring a man at that position where they wont need to give as many leaves. While the 'companies' are also human run and should have basic sense, if we limit the lens to only economic - did my coworker have a point?
