For 1xBTS users: I set up a public HTTP proxy that can enable your CDMA phone to browse the internet.

Just realized I forgot to make a separate post after having set this up. I did update my post about my WAP gateway to include this info, but I figured I’d make a standalone post to ensure that more people can find this info.

This HTTP proxy is only necessary for those of you who are using CDMA phones on 1xBTS.

Needless to say, although I take as many security precautions as I can, I cannot make any guarantees! So please avoid transferring sensitive data over it, just to be extra safe. For anyone wondering, it’s located in Germany.

Proxy IP: 176.103.221.33
Proxy Port: 3128

Please do not try to use this for any other purpose besides normal web browsing on vintage phones that require a proxy. Your IP address will be automatically banned if abnormal activity is detected.

How aggressively does Total Wireless enforce their international roaming limit (50% of usage)?

I moved to Germany last year, and need to keep a few American numbers active. My American number that I was primarily using is on US Mobile, and I've left it there, just paying an extra $15 occasionally as needed, which grants me a whopping 150 minutes and texts. Aside from that, I've been relying on wifi calling. However, since smartphone use is off the table entirely for me, that's majorly restricted the range of phones I can use, and I'd really like to have the freedom to use non-shitty phones with that SIM.

So, that means, I'd be using almost exclusively just talk and text, with only a very miniscule amount of 2G data each month. This is why I'm hoping I could get away with roaming long-term.

To be clear, I am interested because Total just launched a $25 plan with 300 minutes and unlimited texting while roaming. 10GB data, but that's irrelevant for me.

Yes, I am keenly aware that every network imposes restrictions on long-term roaming. I've spent a couple years abroad with T-Mobile and never heard a word of complaint from them, however. Someone else on my T-Mobile account spent four years in China without an issue. I'm fairly sure this is due to low amounts of usage. Needless to say, T-Mobile isn't a real option for my line in question, since they charge 25 cents per minute.

So, I'm only really interested in hearing about the experiences of those who have tried using Total Wireless internationally, for longer than the terms technically allow. Please tell me if you got any warnings for excessive roaming, if your service was restricted, or if it was fine. Thanks in advance!

I have Spotify working on my Nokia Symbian phones, and I'm really happy about it!

Video: https://youtu.be/6oxtlZo_Xao

So, LCG Jukebox already allows us to stream online radio on our Symbian phones, which I do all the time, but it doesn't give me full control over what I listen to. Since I only carry my Nokia E72 and E66 as my daily use devices, I decided, as always, to overengineer something. I've got my Spotify account streaming to an online radio URL, and it's all controllable directly from the phone via a simple website.

Backend: librespot, ffmpeg, icecast, all running on my Linux server. If enough people are interested, I could see myself tidying up the code and posting it on github and/or making a video tutorial, but it's not exactly simple, so I'm unable to guarantee that just yet.

I’ve just set up a public WAP gateway, feel free to use it!

There are already a few others, but it can’t hurt to have more options. Needless to say, although I take as many security precautions as I can, I cannot make any guarantees! So please avoid transferring sensitive data over it, just to be extra safe. For anyone wondering, it’s located in Germany.

Since I mentioned the existence of a few other free public WAP gateways, you can see them here
