NSL Power Rankings - Week 17
6 - Calgary Wild
Calgary is showing signs of life for the first time this season, but not enough to bump them out of last in my rankings. They have strung a couple wins together between league and Can Champ play so hopefully they can build on the momentum - though the season is not salvageable from a ‘make the playoffs’ perspective. They face a tough test against Ottawa this week.
5- Vancouver Rise
Sadly, Vancouver seems to have lost their way lately. They haven’t won a match in a month and recently gifted Calgary their first NSL win of the season. Hopefully they can get back on track this weekend at home VS Halifax. If they don’t figure things out soon, the reigning champs will find themselves outside of the playoffs
4 - Montreal Roses
A 4th place ranking for a 2nd place team may seem harsh but their recent home play has been abysmal. The Roses bottled their Can Champ match against a non pro side and now find themselves without their head coach with 10 matches to play in the regular season. The Roses will surely make the playoffs but I doubt they will hold on to the 2nd seed.
3- Halifax Tides
The Tides aren’t the best team in the league, but they never seem to be out of contention in any match. Though they should have finished off Ottawa when they had the chance in Can Champs, they gave the table topping Rapid all they could handle and have come away with road wins on either side of that match.
2- AFC Toronto
AFC Toronto has found their form - 10 points from their last 4 matches and no sign of slowing down. They can pass Montreal for 2nd in the standings with a win this weekend. If anyone is going to catch the Rapid and take the shield, it will be the reigning shield holders.
1- Ottawa Rapid
10 matches without a loss, a historic comeback win in the Can Champ round of 8 and a match VS Calgary this weekend. Life is good.
