Beginner looking to breed my own autoflower strain, where would you start?

Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to growing autos, but long term I’d love to become more self-sufficient with seeds and slowly learn the breeding side of things.

My idea is to start simple with some regular autoflower seeds, probably from Night Owl or Gnome Genetics, since good auto regs seem surprisingly hard to find.

Then I was thinking about eventually crossing one of those lines with something like Gorilla Z from Fast Buds, especially since their seeds are pretty cheap during the current promo.

I’m not trying to create the next legendary cultivar overnight, I’d rather learn properly, make my own seed stock, select plants I really like over multiple generations, and gradually build something that’s actually mine.

Are there any auto breeders here who started this way?

Would you recommend Night Owl or Gnome as a better starting point for regular autos? Any specific lines you’d look at first?

And more generally, what do you wish you knew when you first started breeding autoflowers?

Appreciate any advice 🙏🌱

2nd grow... what a mess 😂

Two Northern Lights from RQS. I'm not exactly sure what day they're on, but I think the one on the right is getting pretty close to harvest.

They stretched way more than I expected. I actually had to remove the light mounts and rig up a DIY solution to get the light even higher, because it was literally touching the tops at the maximum height. Unfortunately, I was away for a few days and they ended up getting light burn.

My first grow (last pic) stayed much smaller because I didn't use vegetative nutrients. This time I think I used too much Canna Vega, which probably caused the excessive stretch.

For my next grow I'll cut back on the veg nutrients, do some light LST, and probably use a SCROG net to keep an even canopy and control the height.

Still learning, but that's part of the fun! Has anyone here have some feedbacks on Canna Terra nutrient line with autos ? Any advice is welcome! 😄

First grow 2 weeks (maybe?) left before chop

Here is my first ever plant I started this journey before knowing nothing on growing, I learned on the way 😅

RQS northern lights, Basic supermarket soil, canna Terra flores for the nutrients only (didn't had the Terra vega for the vegetative stage and the others stuff)

First Grow Ever - Northern Lights Auto Week 1 of Flower. Am I doing it right?

Hey everyone, this is my very first grow ever! I'm growing a Northern Lights Auto from RQS and I think I’m around week 5-6 total (just entered flower, probably week 1). I didn't keep proper track of the weeks, so I'll definitely start a grow journal for the next ones.

I used a basic supermarket soil and I haven't given any nutrients yet. The plant has been doing pretty well so far with just the soil's nutrients. I just ordered Canna Terra Flores and I’m planning to start feeding her soon at half dose.

She’s been LST’d a bit and overall she looks healthy and bushy to me, but I’d love some honest feedback!

Questions for you guys:

  • Is she looking good for week 1 of flower?
  • Any tips for feeding with Terra Flores (dosage, frequency, etc.)?
  • What should I do differently for my next grow?

Thanks in advance for any advice, I’m learning a lot! 🙏
