Advice on Job offer
Hi all,
I’m in my first gap year and will be applying this coming cycle. I recently was offered a job by a physician to work at her research company that does clinical trials. This physician is quite well connected, and has lots of influence within their specialty. She also mentioned having a few connections to my state med school that could potentially help me get in (only have her word to go off for this).
At her company, they’re running a bunch of different trials looking at different disease progressions and developing drugs to treat them. In terms of publications or posters, I don’t think I’d get any because they’re a private R&D company.
The job is 3x12 hr shifts a week, and the work sounds cool and all but the physician/PI herself is pretty toxic from what I hear. Also with the application cycle opening up so soon, I probably won’t have much to put about this experience on my primary app. I probably won’t be able to get a rec letter either because I’m applying as soon as applications open up. Also slightly worried about it interfering with my writing time for secondaries and stuff.
Knowing all of this, I was wondering if it’d be worth it to take this job for the slight chance of getting a publication, and possibly making connections??
Here are my stats for reference:
