Should I ask my crush out? 3-4 days left to
Hey everyone, one of my first time posting on Reddit, but I do really need some advice on whether I should ask out this girl or not. I only have about 3-4 days left of the school year to do it (I’m 17, a junior in high school).
Background Context (don't need to read but might be important for info about me): I was pretty fat most of my life up until I was 15, so I never got any attention from girls and felt really insecure. Back in 4th grade, I got rejected by a crush and made fun of by her, and it’s honestly been like a ghost in the closet ever since. Those old memories always make me hesitant, even though it is pretty stupid, so I just wanted to give that context on why I’m overthinking this so much right now when the signs might seem obvious lol.
We have 5th period together and sit at a 4-person desk group—she sits right across from me. I've liked her pretty much since we met in early November.
The Signs: She is completely different from other girls I talk to. I sit with groups of 3-4 girls in two of my other periods, and it’s very obvious there's no attraction there; it's totally just a platonic classmate situation. But this girl (let’s call her J) actually notices me.
- In-Class Signals: She gives me glances and smiles at me when something funny or awkward happens. Sometimes she looks at me first, and we just laugh and smile at each other. I catch obvious glances all the time. For example, today and yesterday, we locked eyes and both looked away fast. This has been going on for a good while now.
- The Tension/Body Language: Over the last month, we've developed this sort of tension. She constantly fiddles with her things, and today she was playing with and twirling her hair around me, even though we don't talk a lot because we are both nervous (or maybe I'm just nervous, idk you tell lol!)
- The Door Incident: Yesterday, I was walking into class behind a friend of mine. J was opening the door. She could have just held it open normally for my friend, but instead, she looked back at me (not directly, but I could tell it was meant for me) and opened it wider when she noticed I was close, so I could grab it at the same time. To me, that was massive. No other girl acts like this around me; the awkwardness and tension feel completely different, hope I'm not overthinking.
- Social Media: She views my stories on both my spam and main accounts like 99% of the time. She follows almost 550 people, and my accounts are not big at all, so she’s intentionally clicking my name, I would think.
My Concerns:
- The Other Guy: There is this one guy who comes to hang out with her friend group (4-5 girls). I’m pretty sure it’s fully platonic because she didn’t have a Valentine this year, she never talks about other guys, and I’ve never seen them acting affectionate. He just talks to all the girls in the group and leaves whenever. It’s probably just natural jealousy on my part.
- Text Response Times: When we text, she takes a while to reply (usually 3-4 hours). But I’ve noticed it’s a consistent pattern, so I think she’s just not super active on Instagram. She always answers and never leaves me on read, and she's even left heart reactions on my messages before. I know we aren’t dating, so she shouldn't be glued to her phone waiting for me anyway. I'm probably just overthinking it.
End note: I really like this girl a lot. I can't go 30 minutes without thinking about her. She’s beautiful, her personality is so bubbly, and her smile is infectious. I tried to force myself to get over her these past two weeks, but I just can't. This would be my first time ever asking out a girl. I think I really want to do this, but I'm terrified of a no would break me, and it's already killing me, and I haven't even asked her out, so I guess I just need some reassurance/advice on how to handle it.
Thanks for reading. I really need some advice, do you think she's just waiting now for me to make the move?, only have 3-4 days to ask her out left, this friday and next thursday.
