Monitor randomly freezes for benign reasons with no apparent fix
So my monitor will randomly freeze. This has been a reoccurring problem for years but all the fixes (that I can remember) don’t work the next time the issue pops up. I’ll include what those were later.
I’ll include a video but the TL;DR is that my detached monitor will randomly freeze for a short to long (sometimes permanent) time with only the top being non frozen and divided by a glitched line at the top of the screen. Everything is still interactive and works fine and this problem does not happen with my laptops built in monitor.
I have ruled out it being anything but the monitor. My laptop works fine with other monitors and it’s not the connector cable. The only thing I have not done is try it with another computer, however I don’t really have a reason to as my laptop is so old it’s practically a desktop now so the monitor remains plugged into it all the time now.
The thing that caused the problem to resurface this time was that I unplugged my computer from the HDMI cable for 6 or so days. It’s extremely finicky like that.
Please give me all solutions you can think of, some of the most benign uses to work before. Even give me solutions that may include ones I’ve tried before as I don’t know what the root cause of this even is.

List of things that used to work:
- using the windows button when something was full screened (this one shows how finicky and weird this problem is)
- updating my graphics driver
- changing the monitors Hz from 144.01 to 120
- doing something with my monitor driver (I think?)
I’ll be honest I can’t remember the other fixes as the problem won’t resurface for months so I forget the weird things I’ve done to fix it.

EDIT: Not a permanent fix but just another thing I just found to show the stupidity of this problem. I fullscreened (not borderless) a game of EU4 (video game) and as long as it’s on the EU4 application it doesn’t happen…
