Suguru crossed the room in three strides, caught Satoru by the sleeve, and pulled him fully from behind the curtain. The bells at Satoru’s cuff gave one quick, bright sound before Suguru closed his hand over them.

“Quiet,” he said.

Satoru looked down at Suguru’s hand around his wrist, then back up. His smile came slowly.

“I’ve had warmer welcomes.”

“From people with worse judgment.”

“Most people have worse judgment than you. It’s part of your charm.”

“This is not a game.”

“No,” Satoru said, and the smile thinned. “It is a locked room with two guards outside and at least one more below the window. Games have better lighting.”

“If you wanted me against a wall, Your Highness, there were less dramatic ways to arrange it.”

I got drunk and posted Chapter 1 of my medieval fantasy SatoSugu AU, which feels appropriate because the entire fic is about poor choices in beautiful rooms. (I’m 23, and drank with friends don’t worry)

Geto is the crown prince of a very elegantly rotten kingdom. Gojo is a disgraced noble heir turned court jester. Apparently the healthiest response to political trauma is wearing bells and publicly bullying the ruling class.

The vibe is: court politics, arranged marriage, hidden passages, enemies to lovers, “the fool is the only honest man at court,” and SatoSugu being so devoted it becomes everyone’s national security problem.

I was visually inspired by Karoline Prihodko’s jester/royal imagery. Theatrical, romantic, slightly absurd, and emotionally unwell in the best way.

I’m new to all this, I wrote when I was 15 and after years and years of not touching Ao3 my life brought me back.

First chapter is up now, I am more than half way done. Honestly, I’m a masters student and I’m very impulsive and this felt like the only way to escape haha. So I won’t be sure about the times of updates of new chapters.
