I’m adopting 2 young adult cats from a shelter in July and am doing lots of research to prepare. One thing I wonder about is when to start the training! I see lots of advice about getting your cats used to things like paw handling for nail trims and touching and manipulating their mouth for tooth brushing and medication administration and other such things. That seems like excellent kitten advice, but I am worried that if I start that with my adult rescue kitties before they are fully used to me, they will associate me with bad and scary things.

Basically what I’m asking is: when can I start pushing their boundaries a little for the sake of nail trims and dental health without damaging their trust in me?
