Dolly shot caught me offguard
Just great and unusual, using the character as foreground. Completely caught me offguard. Stargate end of season 2

I finally dug my old Canon XL-1S out of storage and was really disappointed to find that it needs repairing.
The camera powers on fine in VCR mode and all controls work as expected. But in any of the shooting modes, it cycles on and off, showing only a blue screen for a second on the viewfinder (along with the power indicator light turning on) and then powers off before repeating the cycle after a few seconds.
I’ve cleaned the contacts between the lens and the body. From the digging I was able to do here and in miniDV forums, it seems like the problem is likely either a fuse replacement or a bad capacitor.
The problem is that there are no repair shops near me that I’m aware of (Tampa Bay Area, Florida), and I can’t find any guides on how to do this kind of repair.
My dad is a retired electrical engineer who has lots of experience working on circuit boards, so I feel like this is something he could help me tackle with the right guidance.
Has anyone experienced this, or are you familiar with any resources that could help us?
