Cardiologist told me I don't need statins until menopause hits. Is that true?

I'm a 37 year old South Asian woman with a family history of high cholesterol and heart disease. My LDL has been steadily increasing with the last tests showing at 177. ApoB is borderline high at 1.27 and LpA in normal range with 56.8 mmol.

I went to a cardiologist who did an ultrasound and said my heart and neck arteries look totally fine and that I shouldn't start statins until after menopause. She said until menopause, women are protected anyway and high LDL doesn't necessarily mean I'm likely to get a stroke or heart event.

Now I'm a bit sceptical about this as most doctors are not as up to date with newer guidelines and most don't advocate for a proactive approach of prevention. In fact, insurance doesn't cover statins in this country until you have a stroke or heart attack. Plus there are tons of studies about how women are less likely to receive treatment compared to men with the same condition.

What do you think?

I have the luxury of access to a "third-world" country where I can buy statins at 1/6th of the cost, over the counter. I already started self administering 5 mg rosuvastatin with 10 mg ezetimibe on alternating days, but now this cardiologist is making me question things.

Allergies and seasonal flare ups of puking

My cat, Chai, is a 4 year old neutered male rescue. We got him 1.5 years ago. Last year he showed signs of allergies - scratching ears until he lost für etc. Since then we put him on a daily dose of 5 mg zyrtec.

For the last 4 days, he's throwing up - some hair but yesterday and today it's been brown, more liquid food. He throws up in the middle of the night only, 6 hours after his last meal. Other than that he's scratching/grooming more as well.

I want to give him pepsid tomorrow night for the vomiting but does anyway have experience with this?

It really feels like the vets don't have a clue when it's about allergies. So far they haven't been much help.

High LDL-C and ApoB but all else fine - what does it mean?

Hi Reddit, please help me (37F) understand my results. I have LDL-C at 166 and ApoB at 115 but my trigs and Lp (a) are well within normal ranges.

I have some family history of heart disease and cholesterol, as well as diabetes (yayyy genetic lottery) . Plus a high resting heart rate (also genetic).

I am active, eat a vegetarian diet 90% of the time, and since my results I drastically cut butter, cheese and full fat dairy. I've been on contraceptive pills continously since I was 18.

Most doctors in my family are saying it's not time for statins yet but based on what I'm reading in this sub, it might be.

Help me understand my situation please.
