Dog with possible torn CCL problems

I currently have a female dog who has a possible slight tear in her rear left leg. She’s 97lbs almost 8 years old and hasn’t had any issues walking until recently. Yesterday afternoon she slipped when walking back to the house on a ground pipe and began limping really bad and refused to move a lot. She toe touches with the rear left leg. I took her to the ER vet who was incredibly rude and not helpful with information whatsoever and did an examination with no x rays and said it could be a possible tear and to follow up with my main vet in a week and sent us home with Codeine and Carprofen. Her gums are pink, stomach is not firm, still very alert, and food driven. Occasionally gets up on her own to readjust herself and I use a towel to support her rear when walking her to go outside. She’s ate and drank like normal but hasn’t gone potty since right before her accident. I’ve brought her outside and she stands and then lays down, won’t even attempt to go to the bathroom. It’s been almost 24 hours since her last urination so I called the ER she was at to update them so they can assess the situation. I kind of got the same thing as they said I can bring her in for another evaluation but didn’t really seemed pressed about it. I’m not sure what to do since her main vet isn’t open till tomorrow morning but don’t want to go back to the ER vet if they won’t really do much again. Any thoughts or inputs is greatly appreciated, I’ve never had something like this happen with any of my animals.

Could my cat have had her kidneys fail due to stress?

Our 12 year spayed female cat was diagnosed with stage 1ish (possibly early stage 2) CKD in May of this year. Her creatinine was 173 umol/L. We started her on renal support wet food and she was doing well.

About five days ago, she started throwing up a few times and barely eating. We took her in two nights ago and her creatinine was 1080 umol/L and BUN was >49.98 umol/L. The vets were shocked and said she was in late-stage kidney failure. Back in May, her creatinine was only 175 umol/L.

The plan was to keep her hospitalized with IV fluids and daily blood work. We were hoping she would stabilize and we could take her home with daily SubQ fluids.

24 hours later, they performed blood work again and said the creatinine was still increasing and her potassium kept increasing as well, meaning the kidneys could not filter it out. They were worried about her heart with the potassium increasing. However, she did eat a couple bites and was still peeing. They told me she is suffering and don’t believe she will get better. We decided about 36 hours into her hospitalization to put her to sleep.

BACKSTORY:

This all started last Friday, about a week ago. My sister brought over two 8 month old cats for about 5 hours for a ”play date”. My cat has met these two cats twice before. They would stress her out whenever they’d get too close and she would hiss at them. She spent most of those five hours on her cat tree. After they left, she ate a late dinner of wet food around 11 at night. Sometime in the early morning, she threw up all the food. Every since throwing up, she kept losing her appetite more and more until her eventual hospitalization.

Could this five hour visit have been the trigger for her kidneys to fail? Maybe if she didn’t drink that day from stress due to the kittens? I just don’t get how this happened and the vets have no idea. Her blood work and urinalysis did not show any signs of infection.

Any advice is appreciated.

Fecal matting under tail after procedure?

Took our dog in for surgery and afterwards noticed some missing fur, residual fecal matter and red irritated skin at underside/base of tail. Is it common that dog poops during surgery or while recovering from anesthesia and perhaps the vet staff didn’t clean off the poop resulting in skin irritation area? Dog hair is very short and generally gets wiped after pottying so this is first time we’ve experienced seeing fecal matting under the tail.

my cat is grieving, is there a point where a vet visit might be necessary?

so our family dog died on Fathers Day, June 21st, and my cat is defiantly feeling it.

my cat, Miles, just turned 5 and him and the dog Lily were besties. she died of old age and had a wonderful life. they would lay in her big dog bed together, he would also cry at her to kick her out so he could lay in it alone lol. they would play, and they were very physically close as well. Miles would rub up against her intensely, groom her, sniff and lick her. they just really loved each other!

i have another cat, Stewie, and he is perfectly fine. at first the night Lily died he was in distress and could tell something was wrong. he was always the first on the scene when Lily would be in distress. you could defiantly tell he was confused for a bit, but he eventually went back to his normal self. they were not as close and i think Lily found him annoying haha. (we joke he has half a brain cell, so i think he was able to jump back because of that lol).

but Miles has slowly gotten more sad. he was defiantly sad and confused at first as well, but it has just progressed. i think he has finally realized she isn't coming back. this behavior has been going on since last week.(a week after Lily died).

my mom took the dog bed away that was in her room, i understand why she just couldn't look at it. Miles has been going to the corner where it was and looking around sad and confused. Lily used to lay at a spot near the foot of my bed on the floor on my pile of stuffed animals and Miles has been sitting down there a lot now, he never did before. he sleeps and lays around more, he hides under my moms bed a lot too. he would do that before sometimes, but now he will spend over half the day down there. he also would be the cat who doesn't like when you move around if he is laying on me/my legs. the slightest movement and he was out. but now, i can twist and turn all i want and he just stays stone cold and doesn't move. this morning i was talking with him while we were waking up for the day and he looked extra sad and i swear his eyes were watering. he is also super skittish now, especially around my mom. he hasn't been skittish like this before, my mom will just walk towards his general direction and he will run away. he also doesn't cuddle her anymore. he used to love cuddling my mom, especially when she gets back from work she is a flight attendant so she can be gone for days at a time. but he just doesn't cuddle her since. he also doesn't care for much outside time anymore. they have SUPERVISED outside time, they just stay in our secure backyard and hangout/run around. Stewie was out today with my mom and the door with the doggy door was open and Miles didn't care and just came to lay in bed with me instead. which i did think was odd.

my mom said today she thinks that he might think its her fault Lily isn't around anymore. and at first i was like, "no that's crazy" but now im not sure. is that a possibility?

my mom said she wasn't trying to scare me, but she said he might need to go to the vet. he still eats normally and uses the litter box fine. he doesn't seem like he is in physical pain or anything. i know it can be hard to tell with cats, which is why im asking if grief can become a vet visit. but he also doesn't show other signs of hurting, like i know there is that Feline Grimace Scale and he doesn't seem like the pictures they show.

like yes he looks sad at times, but it comes in waves. i told my mom i think he truly is just grieving and is sad right now. AND yes, i am there for him as much as i can be! i am helping him, around him always, talking with him, playing with him when i can get him to, cuddling and petting him. like he has support from me 100%!

im just nervous now that my mom said that. i can't afford just yet to take him. probably within the next few weeks i will be able to. especially if he shows more signs or if this could be a reason for a visit. so, can pet grief lead to a visit and when should i be concerned? thank you!

When to put cat down?

My cat is 16 years old and her health is rapidly declining. I took her to the emergency vet last weekend (Sunday) and they found a mass on her colon and urged me to put her down. I took her to her normal vet the next day for a second opinion and they were more optimistic saying it could be a cyst. They prescribed her a steroid for swelling and told me to bring her back in a month. Tuesday and Wednesday were better days as she was eating and sleeping better. Thursday she was refusing to eat food and because restless again. She was walking around meowing throughout the house. I got her in to the vet on Friday and he said that her mass felt bigger and she may only have 2 weeks left. She only weighs about 4 pounds and she’s starting to turn her nose to churu cat treats which were the only thing I could get her to eat. I made an appointment for her tomorrow and I’m not sure if it’s time to say goodbye. This has been the most emotionally draining experience and I keep making myself sick thinking about putting her down. I feel like I’m just dragging it out for the both of us.

It may seem obvious that it’s her time but I’m struggling so much because she’s still so alive and conscious. She’s walking around and sat in the bathroom with me while I showered (this was very new for her) I always assumed when it came down to making that final call it would be so obvious. Like she would be gone cognitively. Her being so aware makes me wonder if I should wait a few more days or if I just say it’s time. Does anyone have advice on what to do?

Normal or Abnormal At-Home "Peaceful Passing" Euthanasia Experience?

Hi Vet community,

We decided to let our girl pass the rainbow bridge yesterday with at-home euthanasia. We were grateful to have 11 good days with her after her HSA diagnosis and the moment she got a little more quiet, we scheduled the appointment. We thought that at at-home "peaceful passing" would make the grief feel a little lighter but it has been the worst part of it all.

When the vet arrived, she was definitely weak but laying down comfortably as she was on gabapentin. After the vet injected the first dose to "put her to a peaceful sleep", she got a little more restless, which the vet explained was from the additional pain med boost. After 10-minutes, she got even more restless and kept repositioning herself. We put a pillow under her neck to perhaps help her breathe then finally she started gasping for air and staring into my eyes wide-open, definitely looking like she was scared/struggling/uncomfortable. As this was happening, I asked my vet if she was going and she said "she very well could be going at any time", quickly listened to her heart, and then sort of frantically injected the second dose in which she was put to rest.

I cannot stop thinking about those last final moments with her. It was the most distressed she looked throughout her entire illness and it makes my partner and I feel like we made a huge mistake... we are wondering if enough of the initial sedative was not injected, or if her breathing was so decompensated that her lungs shut down before her brain could? I am not a vet (just a second year medical student trying to make sense of this) but I can appreciate that all animals react differently to drugs. If anyone can provide some clinical insight or reassurance on this, I would deeply appreciate it. <3

How can I get my dog to eat?

I have a 5 year husky/boxer/pitbull mix and since we adopted her at 9 weeks old, she's been a picky eater. We have tried all kinds of kibble, wet food, even plain boiled chicken and sometimes she'll like something for a few days then refuse it. We always assumed the pickiness is the husky in her (huskies age notoriously picky eaters). Things got more complicated when she got valley fever (a fungal infection prevalent in the southwest) a couple years ago. She went into remission for a bit but it's back again. It's disseminated in her hindquarters and can be uncomfortable, but she's otherwise happy and energetic. However, since the resurgence, her eating has gotten worse. She had a full exam and blood workup and everything is perfect, so the vet is sure valley fever is her only health issue (she will likely have it for life but lifespan can generally be normal with lifelong meds).

The vet said to put out her kibble and don't offer anything else. No treats, nothing. In other words, if she gets hungry, she'll eat. We have tried that for multiple days at a time. Problem is, she'd rather go hungry than eat something she disapproves of and the valley fever is curbing her hunger as well. Yet, if we give her a canned food she approves of, she'll gobble it down, but she gets tired of stuff she likes easily.

I have no idea what to do anymore. I love this girl with all my heart and I can't bear to see her waste away. She's obviously slightly hungry, but we need healthy calories in her. I'm so worried. I need my baby to eat. 😔 I appreciate any advice.

My Cat has been itchy for over a year and I am willing to do anything at this point

Hello! My cat’s name is Christopher, and I’ve had him since I was like 10 years old. He’s about 15 years old now and was 14 when this all started. He’s an orange tabby who is currently about 16lbs. Male, neutered. I know this is suppose to be a shorty history, but this is kind of a long process to how I got here. So I’m just going to go through all the appointments and treatments we have gone through since this started. In the past year he has declined kind of fast, but the worst part about it all is no vet can seem to figure out exactly what is happening. So I’m using every resource I can get my hands on to see if by chance someone has experienced the same thing or has any ideas on how to help. It all started last April.

For most of my life, I had no idea how to properly take care of a cat. I was so young when I got him, I was just doing what my parents said. He never even got his first rabies shot until he was like 10 because he was moving in with me while I was in college. That’s just to give you a little perspective into this because what happened was I realized his teeth were really bad around april of last year. I took him to the vet and I honeslty had no idea I was suppose to be getting them cleaned, so they got him scheduled to clean them and pull the bad teeth. Well, it turns out his teeth were so bad that the techs didn’t feel comfortable pulling them because his one fang was so fragile it could shatter. I told them just to do the cleaning and I would find someone who could pull the teeth somewhere else.

Then came the itching and alopecia. It started kind of slow at first. I noticed he was itching the lower area on his tummy a lot and the fur started falling out around that area. I also noticed the nipples were pretty crusty and there were these little black dots forming on his skin in that area. I took him back to the vet on May 13th, 2025 and they thought it could be folliculitis and that the hair follicles were clogged and causing discomfort. So we did a round of steroids and antibiotics to try and help him. It helped while he was on them, and then after the round was over he went right back to chewing. We moved around this time, too.

So we went to the dermatologist. The first vet said they couldn’t really do much else for me so they recommended I went to an actual pet dermatologist. That was around June 16th 2025. It did not go well. I told her about the little black dots (which I had observed the night before) and all she said was ‘I don’t see them right now) She told me to give him gabapentin every day to keep him from itching and basically sent me on my way. Needless to say, nothing really came out of that. But we also weren’t 100% certain that he wasn’t overgrooming because of mouth pain because those bad teeth were still in his mouth.

So I got his teeth pulled. I Scheduled an appointment at a low cost clinic that specializes in teeth (because I’m fairly low income) and he got 8 teeth pulled on September 5th, 2025. He was on another antibiotic for that, and was in a cone for two weeks. Recovery went well, he’s just a little monster and hated the cone. But we got it done with no complications in that aspect.

But the itching didn’t stop. So at this point, I knew it wasn’t his teeth. So because I had moved, I got an appointment with a new vet that was right across the street from me. His first check up with them was on October 22nd 2025. They asked for a urine sample because if this tummy was hurting internally, that could cause overgrooming in that area too. And we did find Struvite Crystals in his urine. Idk how long he’s had them or if the first teeth cleaning was so stressful for him it triggered them. I honestly have no idea, but we got him onna urinary diet and he’s been on it every since. They did x-ray him to look for stones in his bladder just in case and they didn’t find any.

If that helped at all, it didn’t show. Because he was still licking at his skin and at this point. It was like he was wearing a crop top. He entire lower half if his belly is bare and he irritates it so much it was dry and bumpy and scabby. It makes me feel bad just looking at it. And then, in a completely separate spot, he got a bunch of zit like bumpies on his leg. Like, he would get bumpies on his tummy from irritating it so much. But these bumpies were red and bright and in a place he wasn’t itching before so it couldn’t have been related to the overgrooming. So he went back to that same vet on November 12th, 2025. More antibiotics. More steroids. Same reaction. It helps while he’s on it, but when the round is over, he goes right back.

Then came the butt scooting. On January 15th, 2026, he went to the vet for butt scooting. I brought a stool sample and they realized his hips were so sore from chronic arthritis that he couldn’t express his own glands properly and they expressed his glands for him and gave him his first shot of solensia for the pain. He also got some glandex powder and cosequin cat capsules to help with joint pain.

The next day, they told me he has Clostridium. A bacterial overgrowth in his bowels. Again, I have no idea when it started or why. I always suspected it was because he had been on so many antibiotics in that year, but I’m also just a paranoid overthinker, it really could be anything. He went on Metronidazole for that. We have him the 50mL (1cc twice a day by mouth until gone) and that was that.

A few months go by. Solensia shot every month. Gland expressions when he needs some extra help. But still digging into his skin, and it’s spreading. Up his leg, up and down his tummy, just all over that area. His skin is dry and impacted, his nipples are crusty and covered in those little dark dots and all around his skin in that area too. So I need to do something. In all honesty, I wanted to find a different dermatologist, but after searching I realized there was only one pet dermatologist in my city so I had to go back to her.

So on March 19, 2025, We went back to the dermatologist. She wants to rule out a food allergy so he goes on a food trial. A fancy hydrolized food that’s also the urinary food he needed for his struvite crystals. It seemed to be working for like two weeks and then we went right back. She also gave me a recommendation for an oatmeal spray to add some moisture back in that area. And that helps with the dryness.

At this point Im putting the E-collar on him when he seems to not be able to stop itching or when I’m at work. Anything to prevent more damage to the skin. Nothing seems to help. I took him to get his solensia shot and they did a wellness check on him. They said ‘other than his skin he looks good.’

He goes back to the dermatologist on June 2nd, 2026. They say that because it wasn’t a food allergy, it’s probably an environmental allergy. And that because he’s so old it’s not a good idea to go through all the time and effort to desensitize him to it and that the best thing we can do is reduce the itching to make him comfortable. They gave me a few options, he’s gets Atopica prescribed to him.

We started at a lower dose and worked up, but he’s on a 16lbs dose of Atopica daily right now. But I genuinely hate giving it to him. Because like, he was having some twitching issues before the medicine. His muscles would twitch every so often. His feet would flick at weird times. It was something I noticed but I hadn’t gotten the chance to get him to his regular vet to talk to them about it. But now, on Atopica, the twitching has ramped up like 100%. It went from something that would happen every so often, to something I see him doing constantly. I feel it when we are cuddling and I see it out of the corner of my eye constantly. I told the dermatologist and they told me to continue giving the Atopica to him until his next checkup on the 22nd of July. But like, I hate seeing him like this. He will be laying on my chest and i can feel both of his back paws twitching over and over. He will twitch all over his body one after another. And it seems to get worse right after I give it to him. I give it to him at 7pm (right before his dinner time) and after that, the twitching gets even worse. And last night he was laying against my ear and I could hear his heart POUNDING. Now granted, it was 4th of July and there were lots of loud fireworks so that could have been the reason for that because this is the first time I’ve noticed his heart racing. But with everything else going on I am so hyper vigilant of everything he does. I am so worried about everything I messaged his normal vet and got him a checkup appointment for the 8th of july (Wednessday). Basically I’m posing this here to see if there’s anything I should be ready with or should ask my vet about at this appointment. I HATE questioning the professionals when it’s literally their job and they treat animals every day, but it can be hard after so many treatments that havent worked and I see him every day while they only see him at his most stressed once every few months, you know?

Idk if anyone is going to read this all the way through, but maybe I just needed to put this out into the void because after over a year of vet visit after vet visit with seemingly no answers about his skin, it’s wearing on my heart and my mind. He is the love of my life and It hurts me so much to see him in any sort of discomfort. And his bare belly is a constant reminder that I’m failing him in someway, but I can’t fix it. If anyone has any insight or advice I would love to hear any suggestion. I have pictures and videos I’ve taken over the course of the year. But really, if you made it this far, thank you for reading and just send some love to my baby. I really just want there to be some magical cure and we can go back to how everything was when he had no health issues whatsoever but I know we can’t. At this point all I can hope for is for him to be happy and comfortable. ❤️❤️❤️

Last rally in cats?

My 5 year old male cat was diagnosed with kidney failure in April. The vet said he had less than 30% kidney function with both combined, and he required a 4 day stay at the vet for continuous IV fluids and medications. His labs were extremely high, but he was sent home with my fiance and I to do Azodyl meds and SUBQ fluids (100ml x3/week). At first, he was managing the routine pretty well and his labs actually went almost all the way back to normal, just a couple points above normal. His vet recommended continuing the routine but changing the fluids to x2/week. We had done so, but he started becoming more distant and more difficult when it came to administering fluids, and also just nauseous/vomiting and drooling all the time. So, I took him in to get labs done again to see what was going on, and his labs went all the way back to where they were when this entire thing started. Our vet said that it was time to have a difficult conversation and see where we wanted to proceed. After a long and thoughtful conversation with my fiance, we decided to schedule to euthanize our little guy tomorrow on Monday. Our vet said that it was okay to DC everything we’ve been doing and to enjoy the last days that we have with him.

My problem is, now that we’ve discontinued everything and have been giving him his normal treats and food, he’s completely back to normal. He’s cuddly, active, eating and drinking! No nausea or drooling. I’m completely torn. I have read that cats have a “last rally” and that it’s better to put them down on a good day rather than a bad day, for both him and us. I guess I’m just wondering if this is normal, or if we should get our hopes up that our cat is back, and cancel the appointment. Any advice ?

I’ve had him since I was 18 and we’ve gone through so many things together, and he’s always been a relatively healthy cat. I’m heartbroken to let him go but I also can’t watch him deteriorate in front of me, I don’t want him to die with pain or stress or suffer.
Please be gentle, my mental health is already in the shitter😓

Emergency Help Needed: Scared my cat's got an infected foot and may need amputation. Cost is worrying.

My cat is about 2 years old, an outdoor cat (as per my mother's wishes, not mine). Two weeks ago, I saw her nail has been fully ripped off. I thought it would heal, it did not. Its just been bleeding a little, growing red, swollen and black and she's been incessantly licking it. I put on a sock on the wound to stop her licking, except it got blood marks and when i took it off, it smelled awful. She almost certainly has an infection, is licking even more incessantly and will not let me touch her foot. She is still eating and drinking, no fever but I'm scared I've left it too long and she may nerd amputation as her foot, up to the knee bend looks swollen.

I'm 18, no job. Only my dad works, he isn't willing to spend more than 200 on my cat. We don't have insurance (because of my dad). We aren't eligible for Rspca or blue Cross help due to our post code. It is Saturday, tomorrow is Sunday and vet's are already closed now. We can NOT afford emergency vet.

I have about 200 I can spend, but about 70 of that would go to just a normal consultation, and the rest on medicine which is fine. My problem is what if I've left her foot untreated for too long and now she may need an amputation. I also have a problem with leaving it any longer. I'm so scared, what can I do?

am i making a huge mistake?

i have a dog who i love with my whole heart. i took him to get his rabies and parvo vaccines updated this past week since those are the most important.

i normally get his kennel cough vax at the same time, but i recently haven't been able to work as often so i'm delaying yearly kennel cough vax and heartworm test (he's on a preventative for heartworms) until it's cool enough (right now the heat index is like 115°F and he has a dark coat) for my buddy to actually be outside around other dogs since i also have to still buy his food, my food, flea/heartworm preventative, pay bills etc.

but now i'm worried about him getting kennel cough because i waited too long to get the vaccine and now it's expired. is it okay to wait a month or two on a vaccine + if he somehow does get kennel cough, is that fatal? is it really bad or is it more like a flu? i am in shambles and i always try to do my best for him. it just doesn't feel like enough sometimes.

Cat suddenly having tummy troubles

Hello! My cat has just turned one, so my partner and I are transitioning him onto adult wet food. He is an indoor cat, and has no health problems since we got him, nor do his parents or littermates. We had loads of his kitten food left (Sheba kitten) so we’ve very very slowly been moving him onto Purina one. We started the process over a month ago like you’re suppose to (a quarter for a week and so on) and he’s been having a between a half to three quarters of the Purina to the Sheba for the last week and a half since we have so much left over.

Last night he got some poop stuck to his fur, he’s a longhair so not too unusual, but this morning he started scooting his butt against the floor leaving a little trail which he has never done before. He had quite a lot of poop in his fluff and over the floor and it was a mess. He also did this scooting again but a lot less later in the day. His poop in his litter box hasn’t been loose, but it’s obviously a bit loose to be getting all over his butt. He’s also been hiding under the bed since his shower this morning, he does like to sleep under there, but not so much. There’s been no vomiting and he’s been interested in food and treats. Behaviour wise, he’s been more sleepy than usual, and a bit less vocal than he usually is. Is this something to worry about, or that we’re doing wrong with his food?

Advice on Dog’s ear hematoma

My dog has had two ear hematomas on one ear. The vet drained it twice already but it’s filling back up on a different place in the ear.

I don’t have the money to spend 1500 on the surgery, and I don’t know what to do anymore.

At the end of my rope trying to nurse elderly dog through recovery after anesthesia. Does anyone have ANY advice that could help me get him to eat please 🙏

My boy is a 16yo husky, 21.9 kg, currently on gabapentin twice daily, antinol plus and meloxicam for flare ups.

On Monday he went to his regular vet for a dental clean. Monday afternoon and Tuesday he seemed normal but on Wednesday everything went to shit, literally. He's had explosive liquid diarrhea and severe nausea that has turned him completely off food.

Two follow ups with regular vet and two ER visits later he's also on prokolin, ondansetron as well as an injection for nausea, but none if it seemed to help. Five days after initial symptoms he's finally vomiting and passing less but I'm pretty sure that's just because he has nothing in his system because he keeps trying. He's lethargic, can barely walk and I suspect a little dizzy and he will. not. eat. Apparently he doesn't need to be in hospital because he's hydrated and his vital are fine, which was a surprise given his condition but still a relief. Still, nobody can give me advice on getting him to eat other than circling the same bland food recommendations and to just infinitely try until something works. Is that really my only option? He's only eaten a few teaspoons of food in five days. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read.

Edit: grammar and info

Emergency help! Puppy ate whole block of rat poison!

My father’s 4.5 lb 10-week old puppy found a block of Tomcat mouse killer poison and ate basically the whole block. It’s 4th of July and no vet is open!

Any advice is appreciated!

Species: Pit bull terrier

Age: 10 weeks

Weight: 4.5 lbs

Neuter status: no

Vaccines: up to date

Health: otherwise good

EDIT: this was not at my FIL’s house. We did not know there was random poison left over in the yard of a family friend. We are driving 2 towns over to seek help from an ER who had agreed to remain open on the evening of 4th of July. I only posted this to see if there was *anything else* we can do in the moment. Peace y’all

My dog may have eaten many depakote pills

EMERGENCY: I have a little rottweiler (around 65lbs, 6 months old) who opened my pills and spilled them all around the grass in my yard. When i noticed it had already been 10-5 mins since it had happened. I quickly went to go pick up as many pills as i could, but as the pills were in the grass, i only found about 20 of the ~30 pills that were in there. Apart from that, i saw small crushed up pieces, meaning he did atleast notice them. They were obviously spit out though, so im left clueless.

Its since then been 3 hours. The dog is acting like usual. My sister thinks hes fine and is telling me to stop worrying and she thinks he didnt eat alot. But im so fucking scared rn lol. Hes fine and he played for a while but it’s night time and im scared to let him fall asleep.

It was divalproex sodium 500mg ER so im worried. Any advice would be really appreciated. Ive been on 100% since this.

Thanking a vet?

I have an incredible exotics vet who helped euthanize my senior hen the other day. I have been present for several euthanasias at this point in my life, however this one was especially tough. My girl did not make this vet’s job easy. She was first given IM sedation, which quickly and peacefully rendered her unconscious. The vet tried placing an IV, then IO, then he tried accessing her jugular. For various reasons, none of those worked. He then decided to go with intracardiac injection, which was performed quickly and easily. He did such an amazing job throughout the entire process, from walking me through the plan, to explaining exactly what he was doing and his reasoning behind everything. My sweet girl was treated with utmost respect and care the entire time. I can tell that our vet was pretty shaken by the experience, and he apologized for how difficult it was, though I don’t believe for one second that he could have handled it any better than he did. He was so gentle, kind, and thoughtful throughout the whole process, and I am so grateful for him. I plan on writing him a thank you card, but I’d like to do more, as he’s truly gone above and beyond for me and my girl. What do vets appreciate receiving along with cards? I was thinking maybe a gift card to a local coffee shop, flowers, or cookies? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

97lb dog ate corn cob

My dog chewed up a corn on a cob in smaller pieces, the vet didn’t sound super concerned and said since hes so big it should be fine but I’m kicking myself for not going in to make him throw up when i had the chance. Im likely going to go get an xray for him on monday but my question is for bigger dog owners who have had a dog who chewed a corn a cob into smaller pieces, anything happen? What steps did you take? I am a first time dog owner so plz refrain from judgement he is very loved, thank u!
