Home Inspection Found Possible Improper 3-Phase Panel Setup in Residential Home — How Serious Is This?
We’re under contract on our first home in Chittenden County in Vermont and had the inspection yesterday. One of the findings was related to the electrical service equipment (see photo), and I’m trying to understand how serious this is before we move forward.
The inspector noted that the electrical distribution equipment observed appears to be a commercial style three phase panel or disconnect assembly with provisions for three ungrounded “hot” conductors/lugs. However, only two incoming service/feed conductors were present, with a jumper conductor installed between lugs in an apparent attempt to supply the third phase position.
Is this considered unsafe/improper and likely to require major correction or full panel replacement? Roughly how expensive could something like this become if it needs to be redone?
Would appreciate any insight from electricians or anyone who’s run into this before.
