Advice for repair, does my plan sound good?
I’d like to know if my plan to fix this problem sounds like the right way to go about it.
I’ve had a longstanding problem with what I thought was water coming from the soffit on the front porch roof addition. I thought it was a blocked gutter or downspout, then I finally got up on a ladder and the gutter is super dry and clean. Instead I see now there’s a long gap where the gutter isn’t flush to the fascia and the water is going down between the gutter and is dripping off the edge of the soffit. A small amount of water does continue to travel into the soffit but most falls from that edge piece in a very straight line. You can see in the pic how dirty it is there because so accumulates there and also in my flower bed below there’s a severe linear divot in the bed where the plants stopped growing.
You can see in the pics I can stick my fingers in the gap. I have a new nail gun 16g that I’ve never used. I’d like to just use the nail gun and add more nails into the gutter to tack it into the fascia to get rid of the gap. Would this be the right fix? And would the standard nails that fit into the nail gun be ok to use or do I need to look for some special material since it’s going in place with water? I suppose the side wall of the gutter shouldn’t have standing water so do I need to think about rust protection? I’m a serious overthinker on my house projects!! I’m open to hearing any advice on fixing this.
Thanks 😊
