I find Delicate just okay, but I find the idea of Delicate intriguing
A story about time-old satanic witches that have been preying on women for centuries, and are now targeting an up and rising star in new york city actually sounds very interesting on paper, especially given that it directly contrasts our other good-meaning witches in this universe. but when the season came out i was a bit bored with it. i think this boredom and disappointment was honestly cause of the writers strike during its production and the way that it was split into two different parts, which if you had been watching it as it was releasing, made it hard to care about when the second part was coming out. i had already forgotten about it and wasn’t too interested, but i have rewatched it and honestly…….
it isnt even bad. its super flawed, anna is honestly a very okay protagonist and i think people arent used to having one single character be the reason a plot moves forward in ahs. kim k’s character is actually quite passable, she has always had that backhanded mean girl attitude. dex is kind of refreshing because he’s not outright evil as most husbands tend to be in this anthology, but everyone else seems to be a one dimensional npc just giving out the same dialogue (just in different ways).
something that surprised me is how little death there is, im not saying it needs to be shocking but it’s just something i noticed, compared to say red tide or 1984 or even cult, there’s little to no death, pretty good effects though.
i still dont really like the characters of the ashley’s, they remind me of jeff and mutt nutter, in a bad way. the lore that has been inputted into this universe though is really interesting,
1- a satanic witch coven that has existed in this world since the dawn of time, and have been meddling with history by making deals with historical figures and most likely with very rich and powerful people in modern day
2- dex is a half human-half demon hybrid, a first for the ahs universe, though as explained by siobhan, he didnt really become any too supernatural and instead was more of a surprise. now i know youre thinking “michael langdon was the antichrist though”, yea but he came from a human and a ghost, siobhan made a deal with the devil to run these missions, meaning she is also a human, just immortal
3- the ashleys are mentioned to have worked with many famous people and by common sense we can conclude that so have the other delicates, spreading this evil deep into humanity at this point in ahs. (which is just scary and tragic.)
4- much more disturbingly, this whole “rich and powerful people are working with satan and his followers to tear apart the world” is very much connected with the cooperative from apocalypse. given recent light of events about very powerful and famous people hurting children, i wont elaborate on this, since this is a show and i am not going to try and compare that to fiction.
and thats it, i think delicate couldve been so much better, but on recent rewatch, it is just mid. it’s completely fine, nothing more, nothing less. thank you for reading.
