Day 107: Fulton & Roark Ghost Trees

Ghost Trees is a simplistic oceanic/river fragrance in all the best ways. It smells like the really focused in getting the few notes used perfect rather then covering up issues or imperfections in these notes by adding others. The opening is a juniper blast with a bit of pepper and the driftwood. I’ve never smelled a driftwood note before but there is a muted dry woody note with notes of river water in it on the opening that I can only imagine is the driftwood note. These notes are supported by a salty ocean background that’s also extremely pleasant.

The performance on Ghost Trees was a slight letdown as it just didn’t project well or last long. On the longevity side I got 5 hours on my skin and 3 to 4 on my clothing. A 5/10 for longevity. The projection was extremely low but the entire time besides the very first minutes of wear. It was a skin scent throughout, never rising more then an inch or two from my skin. A 3/10 for projection.

Ghost Trees is a 6/10 overall from me. I really really enjoyed the way that it smelled & the care that seems to have gone into picking and parring the notes. It is unfortunately just held back by lackluster performance in both regards.

Day 106: Fischersund FLÓD

Back to back days for Fischersund! Unfortunately that is where the fun ends as FLÓD is a disaster on both my skin & paper. It’s extremely sharp and earthy; in a way that isn’t pleasant. The overpowering note in FLÓD just isn’t enjoyable. It almost approaches a burnt rubber or tire smell. This is unfortunately the end of my review of FLÓD as well, I just couldn’t keep it on my skin all day long. I ended up attempting to washing it off in the shower after about 30 minutes. It wasn’t headache inducing, it just wasn’t enjoyable & something I wanted to smell like. Overall it’s a 0/10 for me.

Day 105: Fischersund No.101

No.101 is forward on the smoke note immediately, it initially has a bit of sharpness to it but this quickly fades, in the first minute or two. It still has the distinct smokey peet like Fischersund DNA but it smells like someone has taken all of those notes and muted them a bit. There are notes of green along with a wet salty sea like note as well that are distinctly different from the smokey peet note but at the same time are mixed into it. The green is a very mild pine & herbaceous note.

The perfomace on No.101 is quite nice; while not being dominanting. For longevity it lasted just over 6 hours on my skin and the same on my clothing. A 6/10 for longevity. The projection was surprisingly low for the strength of the notes, rising about a foot off my skin at the strongest and staying here for around the first 4 hours before fading away over the last two. A 7/10 for projection.

Overall I really like No.101; it feels a lot more approachable then some of the other fragrances from Fischersund & easier to wear. At the same time it sufferes from the issue some fragrance houses seem to have of all of their fragrances sharing the same DNA. It has the dark peet smokey note they seems to be Fischersunds signature. That said I think green note & wet sea salt note help to cut this signature note back in a very good way. It’s a 8/10 for me.

Day 104: Lattafa Al Nashama EDP

The first that comes to mind after spaying Al Nashama on is honey, milk, and spices. There is a distinct smooth leather note that permeates through the entire fragrance. It’s a pleasant smell that easily moves into overwhelming & unpleasant if over applied very quickly, be cautious as well because over about the first 30 minutes it grows in strength. As it dries down a little bit, there is a slightly fruity note and bit of amber in it. The milk, honey, spice and leather stay dominant the entire time.

The performance on Al Nashama is strange on the projection size but very average on the longevity side. It lasted just under 6 hours on both my skin & clothing. Not good, not bad; just standard. A 5/10 for longevity. The projection is interesting, it’s bit muted at the start but quickly swells up to projecting a couple feet off my skin for 3 hours before crashing back to a skin scent for the last 3 hours. A 7/10 for projection.

Al Nashama is good as a fragrance that smells nice but it is a bit to sweet for me to want to wear it often. The leather does offer a nice counter point to this sweetness but it’s just still not overly enjoyable for me personally. I’m giving it a 4/10 overall because it is good, it just don’t fit my taste.

Day 103: Cotton On Musk & Grapefruit

Musk & Grapefruit is not entirely what I expected based on the name. There is heavy musk & a slightly sharp grapefruit note that leans more citrus then grapefruit. There is also a bit of sweetness in here; interestingly it’s not an added artificial sweet sugary note but rather seems to be coming from the musk & grapefruit notes themselves. There is a clean fresh out of the shower/shower gel feeling to it as well.

The performance on Musk & Grapefruit is unfortunately entirely forgettable. The longevity & projection are both extremely low. It lasted under 2 hours on my skin and about the same on my clothing. It’s a 1/10 for longevity. It doesn’t project at all; after the first 5 minutes it has become a close skin scent. A 2/10 for projection.

Musk & Grapefuit smells nice but I hesitate to call it a fragrance and I definitely wouldn’t call it wearable. It’s just so short lived on my skin and it doesn’t project at all. It’s a 1/10 overall because it does smell good. It seems more akin to a body mist or a room spray then a fragrance. This is all quite unfortunate because if it performed it would’ve been a 7/10 for me.

Day 102: Etat Libre d'Orange Exit the King

Exit the King is a rosey & soapy to the extreme; unfortunately not in a great way. It hits my noise in way that makes me throat close a little bit. Although it is surprisingly not headache inducing for me. The rose & soapy notes aren’t unpleasant on the nose, they are just so overpoweringly strong. I do get slight hints of another flora note and a musk note behind the rose & soap.

The performance on Exit the King is quite strange to put it mildly; the longevity is horrible & the projection is insane. It only lasted about 4 hours in my skin & clothing. A 4/10 for longevity. During 3 of these 4 hours however it must have radiated 6 feet off me if not more. It filled every room I went into and I could smell it in my bedroom from the living room. During the last hour it faded away rather quickly, moving to skin scent and gone within 45 minutes. A 10/10 for projection.

Exit the King just isn’t for me; the rose & soap notes are just overpowering in a way that doesn’t smell bad but isn’t pleasant to wear. There is just no nuance to its scent and the overpowering projection combined with short longevity isn’t particularly appealing either. It’s a 1/10 overall from me.

Day 101: Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods EDP

Silky Woods EDP opens immediately with a strong but smooth oud note that has just the tiniest amount of sweetness in it. Accomining this oud note is a mix of sweet, slightly spicy woody note & there is also a light tobacco note in the background. The tobacco note is a fresh tobacco note to my noise instead of a dried or burnt tobacco note. The main note of Silky Woods is oud and while not unpleasant; it is quite dominant. Every other note in Silky Woods is in the background and blended in with the oud here.

The performance on Silky Woods is surprisingly low for a fragrance that is so strongly oud. It lasted 7 hours on my skin and even less on my clothing; I’d say 4 to 5 hours there. It gets a 6/10 for longevity. The protection was also surprisingly low, it never radiated more then a foot off my skin and spent most of its life there before starting to fade off at hour 5 & vanishing at hour 7. A 7/10 for projection.

Silky Woods is a good into to oud fragrance but it’s not really for me. While the oud is good; the tobacco not is just not appealing. I don’t hate it, it just doesn’t really inspire me to pick it up again either. I do really appreciate the smooth present oud, so it’s a 4/10 overall.

Day 100: Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Capri in Love

Light Blue Capri in Love is a fragrance that I have loved from the first time I smelled it in an Ulta last fall. It is a light mix of a fig & pepper with a nice background note of patchouli. As it dries down these notes stay the same in both balance & strength as the opening. There is a tiny bit of sweetness in here but it feels more like it isn’t a note that was added but rather as part of the fig note. Interestingly I get tiny hints of citrus from Light Blue Capri in Love if I don’t spray it in my skin, on paper & my clothing the citrus is there but as soon as I spray it on my skin the citrus vanished entirely.

On the perfomace side Light Blue Capri in Love is quite good. For longevity it lasts just under 8 hours on my skin & about the same amount of time on my clothing. A 7/10 for longevity. The projection is good but not nuclear, it rises strongly off my skin for the first 3 hours, staying just inside my arms length. After this is faded down to a fairly close skin scent that vanished entirely in the last 30 minutes of its lifespan. A 6/10 for projection.

I really really enjoy Light Blue Capri in Love; it’s simple but in a very pleasant & unique way. The fruity fig note is definitely the highlight of this fragrance and I’m fairly confident it was meant to be this way. Overall it is a 9/10 for me; that said I wouldn’t wear it in the summer. It is definitely a fall & spring scent primarily that could work in the winter but most likely to heavy for those hot summer days.

Day 99: Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac EDP

Absolute Aphrodisiac is strangely boring but in a quite pleasing way. The opening has a this deep but mildly animistic musky leather note with a strong sweetness over the top of it that carries hints of vanilla & powder. After about 15 minutes all of Absolute Aphrodisiac has mellowed out into a continuous combined note of that has reversed entirely in its scent profile. The sweet powder & vanilla is strongest with a hint of floral in it and the animistic musky leather note has faded to far into the background with only tiny wafts reaching my nose occasionally.

Absolute Aphrodisiac unfortunately was a bit of a letdown on the performance side in regards to projection but it had great longevity. It lasted just under 12 hours on my skin and stuck to my clothes for over 24 hours. A 8/10 for longevity. The projection was the disappointing side; Absolute Aphrodisiac just didn’t project almsot at all. It started off nicely, getting a couple feet off my skin, radiating inside my arms length. It only stayed this way until it dried down, about 15 to 20 minutes. After this it crashed down to a tight skin scent; and stayed this way for the next 11 and a half hours. A 1/10 for projection.

Absolute Aphrodisiac smells quite good but at the end of the day as a fragrance it’s just not good because it just has absolutely no projection on my skin. I couldn’t smell it for 99% of its life without my noise directly on my skin or clothing. It’s a 2/10 overall, it’s a really good scent. It’s falling in my eyes are being a fragrance due to not being wearable.

Day 98: Paradox Bat Tequila EDP

Bat Tequila is fascinating on the opening; it definitely doesn’t smell anything like tequila & I’m pretty sure it doesn’t smell anything like bats. On the opening it is an extremely clean and bright smelling fragrance accompanied by a strong sweet but lightly spicy cinnamon sugar note with hints of musk & floral along with very light citrus. As it dries down it unfortunately looses a lot of the depth and complexity, within the first 30 minutes. It then becomes a clean bright fragrance with musk.

The performance on Bat Tequila is unfortunately where the ball is dropped almost entirely. The longevity is horrendous, barely making it to 2 hours of wear time on my skin. A 1/10 for longevity. The projection is good but only for the first 45 minutes to an hour before it has almost vanished entirely into my skin. The strongest the projection gets is a foot off my skin. A 2/10 for projection.

Unfortunately Bat Tequilla is getting a 3/10 overall. I love the complexity and mix of notes in the opening but they just aren’t sustained at all. The bright clean fragrance mixed with the cinnamon sugar note is unique from anything else I’ve tried so far & beautiful. It just doesn’t have enough life to wear, all the parts that make it worth wearing are gone in the first 30 minutes and the rest of it is gone in the next 90.

Day 97: Etat Libre d'Orange Divin' Enfant

Divin’ Enfant opens with a slightly strange but pleasant powdery note; I say this because it is the standard powdery almost baby powder like note but there is something slightly cool, almost water & wet in it. There are also strong notes of musk. As it dries down a little there is a laundry esque floral note that gets stronger. Unfortunately there is a note in Divin’ Enfant that as it sits on my skin takes on an unpleasant bitter slightly sour note.

Performance on Divin’ Enfant is fairly weak in both longevity and projection. The longevity is quite low, only lasting 4 hours on my skin. A 3/10 for longevity. The projection is never more then slightly above skin scent; with the slightly above only being right at the initial application. More accurately Divin’ Enfant is a semi close skin scent that fades within an hour to an extremely close skin scent. A 2/10 for projection.

I really want to like Divin’ Enfant but it just doesn’t quite work for me, the note that goes bitter/sour is the most offputting part of it to me. The performance doesn’t help it’s case much, low longevity and extremely week projection just aren’t good selling points for wear. Overall it’s a 2/10 from me. It is future hurt in my eyes due to all the most interesting notes that Divin’ Enfant, the ones I was most excited about, never appear even as just hints. I would have loved to smell the marshmallow, tobacco, coffee, and leather notes. Instead at the end Divin’ Enfant was a very musky laundry like floral fragrance.

Day 96: Emporio Armani Stronger With You Parfum

Strong with You Parfum was a very surprising fragrance; it is an extremely mature and reserved. It’s a dark warm spicy opening with a strong vanilla and nutty background notes. As it dries down it keeps a very similar profile but a pleasent floral hint rises to the surface and the vanilla note lightens. The spice notes are extremely plesent as well, I really appreciate the lightness of the cinnamon in particular.

The performance on Stronger with You Parfum is great but just slightly shy of incredible. On the longevity side I got right around 8 hours on my skin, maybe 8.5 at max. Interestingly Strong with You Parfum is sticking to my clothes incredibly well, lasting well over 24 hours so far but without much projection. A 7/10 for longevity. The projection on Stronger with you Parfum is very liner, decreasing from initial application to the end of its life. Starting off with immensely strong projection in the room I applied it but tapering down over the first how to projection a couple feet around me, just slightly inside my arms length. From there it slowly faded down to a skin scent by hour 7 and was gone between hour 8 & 8.5. A 9/10 for projection.

Strong with You Parfum is incredible, it’s a very mature but not overpowering spicy dark nutty vanilla fragrance without a ton of sweetness. It feels like a very pleasent evolution of the sweet spicy vanilla fragrances. It’s a 9/10 overall for me and one I would definitely wear again, either in the winter or at night. It makes me very excited for the rest of the Stronger with You line.

Moon Tale is a shocking disappointment, even more because opening & the first 20 to 30 minutes have an incredible scent profile but there is a floral note that goes from pleasent to strong, then to overpowering, finally ending on bad and mildly headache inducing. It also blocks out every other note in the Moon Tale. The opening is a gorgeous fresh clean note with strong hints of multiple florals, but none of these notes stick around.

Performance on Moon Tale is extremely good but not shocking with how strong the floral note is. On the longevity side it lasted just under 9 hours on my skin & about 15 hours on my clothing. A 8/10 for longevity. The projection on Moon Tale is excessively strong, it fills whatever room you apply it in and radiates 5 or 6 feet off your person for the first 6 hours before slowly fading away after the next 3. A 9/10 for projection.

Moon Tale performed very well and has a very pleasant opening but that is unfortunately all the good I can say about it. The floral note that overpowers just isn’t pleasant at the strength it reaches. Interestingly I don’t think the floral note itself is in essence bad, it’s just turned up way to high and that in turn ruins the rest of Moon Tale entirely. At the end Moon Tale gets a 1/10, the floral note that is to strong just ruins it for me.

Molecule 04 is good in an unexpected way, based on all my previous experiences with sandalwood this is not the scent profile that I had been expecting. It’s a deep rich spicy note with woody undertones. It in all honesty has proven very hard for me to review because I think it smells good but at the same time there is just something about Molecule 04 that doesn’t appeal to me as a base note or layer.

On the performance side Molecule 04 failed to impress in either longevity or projection. The longevity was honestly quite poor, I got 3 and a half hours of total wear time on my skin. A 2/10 for longevity. The projection was very minimal, Molecule 04 never got more than an inch or two off my skin. A 1/10 for projection.

Molecule 04 smells good but it just doesn’t feel wearable to me as a fragrance, much less as a layer. I just don’t think it has the performance power needed to be worn along side another fragrance, I think most would cover it up and the ones that don’t are likely to outlast it. As a fragrance Molecule 04 gets a 3/10 just for smelling good and as a layer it gets a 1/10.

A note for anyone who plans to order the official samples from Escentric Molecules, the atomizer that is used has been absolutely horrible for me. It struggles to get a fine mist. Rather the fragrance comes out only slightly dispersed and semi stream like.

From the very beginning I’m questioning this fragrance being named White Musk. There is barely any musk at all, rather I am predominantly getting a strong sweet note with powder and floral in it. The musk that is there is in tiny hints and almost totally overpowered by the sweet note. It doesn’t smell bad but overall sweet, surprisingly feminine & very floral.

Perfomace wise White Musk fails to impress as well. On my skin it lasted 4 hours and maybe 2 hours max on my clothing. A 3/10 for longevity. The projection was never very good besides the first 30 minutes during which I could smell it rising pleasantly 6 inches to a foot off my skin but as soon as White Musk finished drying down this was entirely gone. It became a very close skin scent that I could only smell if I pressed my nose to my skin. A 2/10 for projection.

White Musk isn’t bad, I think it’s biggest failer is actually the name. Because there just isn’t really anything musk about it. It’s actually an overly sweet floral & powder fragrance with the tinniest hints of musk in it. Overall it gets a 3/10 for me, I really wish it had a lot more musk in it. Partially due to the name but more to cut down on the sweetness. For me White Musk is just way to sweet for me to wear, especially often.
