I refinanced the residual on my car lease in New York State.
I received a bill of sale from the leasing company listing me as primary buyer. I also received the title showing assignment of ownership to me. There is a place below my name for name of lien holder - to be shown on new title.
Who should fill that out? Do I take this to my bank first, before going to the dmv? The bank said I would have to update my registration. I want to make sure I have everything I need when I go to the DMV - not a trip I want to have to make twice.
Also, I got married and I would like to update my name on the registration so I can also update my name on my insurance policy. Can this be done before the vehicle is paid off? Is the name on my registration tied to the name on the title? While I’m doing all of this can I also update my name on the new title? My old name is, of course, written in as the buyer from the lease company because that’s what it was when I leased the car.
