What does it means when on my Illinois driver's license and my Illinois state ID at the bottom says TYPE: ORG what does TYPE: ORG mean?
I never really paid attention to it until I noticed that today

Any privacy and security concerns about these upcoming digital changes to driver's license and registration in NC? I have several but the first paragraph of this Winston-Salem Journal article (7/5/26) really got my attention...
>When North Carolina motorists are asked by law enforcement officers to present their license and registration, they will be handing over their phone beginning on Oct. 1.
Really?! We'll have to actually surrender our phones to a police officer. Don't like the sound of that at all.
i bought a car off marketplace in december 2025, but i have not transferred the title because i haven't got the money to do so. i'm in California it is now july. how do i go about transferring it now? or do i have to register it? i'm not sure. someone pls help. how much would it be? can i do it online?
I have been trying to log into NY license center for months but it keeps showing up as error,
I can login to MY NY. gov perfectly but just cant proceed to the license center. Has anyone faced this? was their website changed?
I’m under 18 in Ohio and have completed an approved driver’s education course. I’ll also have all 50 required supervised driving hours completed, but I haven’t held my permit for a full six months. I’ve read the Ohio Revised Code and have gotten conflicting answers about whether completing driver’s ed can waive the six-month permit requirement. Has anyone actually been able to take their road test before six months after completing driver’s ed, or did the BMV still make you wait? I’m mainly looking for recent firsthand experiences.
My daughter took her road test on 7/3 at 3:15 in Wantagh NY. Upon completion the proctor gave her instructions to view her results. Instructions state results will be available after 6pm on the day of the test. It’s been 2 days and no results are posted.
This is her second road test. First test 6/17 at 3:45. We had the results by 4:30.
It’s ridiculous and unacceptable that results have not been posted. But its the DMV, they can do what they want with it little to no consequences when they mess up.
My guess is the system will update Monday and the lag has something to do with the 4th of July holiday but it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Has anyone been successful in getting the CA DMV to waive their registration penalty fee for being late? I was expecting a renewal notice, but never got one. That would have been my trigger to pay it. I just realized it wasn’t paid (about a month past due) and went online and took care of it, but I think charging someone a $250+ late fee is ridiculous when no notification was sent.
so I just bought a used car from a junk yard, it ran they gave me a title transfer paper and temporary registration on Wednesday. I went to the mvd yesterday to get registered and get my plate at 8:00am, while I was there I also changed my address on my driver's license because I had moved 2 years prior and never changed it. pretty painless I was there for about 10 minutes, I didn't even have to do emissions. I get home around 11:30 am and check the azmvdnow website, see my new license picture and my new car registered to my account. my apartment complex has this stupid rule where you can't back into parking spaces but I thought it only applied to covered spots. I wake up this morning and my car gone and I already know its towed, they need proof of ownership which is registration which is in the car. I go to the mvd website to send it to myself and the car is no longer on my profile, I freak out and check documents and find the registration there. maybe it's just a glitch in the mvd website. I go get my car back from this money laundering scheme and drive back home and check all my documents. the most recent document is a sold notice at 3:30pm yesterday the 2nd. I freak out again and check the document, the seller is me at my current address, the buyer is also me at my old address. I stare at it for a few minutes in disbelief and then call the DMV, they're closed for the entire weekend. I think I royally screwed myself over getting my address updated. anybody ever have this happen to them.
Found out that I'm a victim of jumping title. In short, person A sold this car to person B which is signed on title.
Person B sold the car to person C but person C did not transfer the car under his name.
Person C sold the car to me with the title that has the name of person A signed as a seller and seller B as a buy. And person C also gave me the bill of sale that has person B signature on it.
DMV denied the title transfer because I don't have the up to date Title that has person B sign as a seller and me as a buyer. DMV told me that the up to date Title is a Tennessee title, not Oregon Title. Now the seller(personC) blocked my number. After checking the VIN, this car has never been report stolen. What can I do in this case? I spent all my savings on this car. Can I do bond Title?
23M. I have my own car and a learner’s permit, but my parents have basically zero time to teach me, and professional lessons are too expensive and too short for the amount of practice I need. I have no choice but to teach myself. I’ve only been driving to and from work and I feel like I’ve been getting more comfortable. my test pretty soon
But now I have a bunch of friends acting all concerned like I’m doing drugs or something. They keep telling me not to drive yet despite my reasons and that I could get my ability to take the test delayed by five years. Is there any validity to this claim? If not, what are the actual consequences
My ex and I have been divorced many years, my parents live in NC and he lives in VA. A couple of days ago I was helping my mom get an online auto insurance quote because her current has increased, and noticed that my ex has 3 cars registered at my parents address, the latest added just 6 months ago. He has never lived at this address, even when he did live briefly in NC. He has been in VA for over 6 years and spent 4 years in Pennsylvania before that.
Then my mom mentioned she has been receiving VA highway patrol letters addressed to him at her house and even a letter from the IRS in the past couple of years, but said she didn’t know what to do, so she ignored it.
I have no idea what reason he’d have to use their address. He is in the military and has a mortgage in VA, so I don’t know how he’s even able to register his car or file IRS matters using this address. What steps do I need to do to have his cars removed as vehicles registered to my parent’s house? My parents do not want him using their address for anything and believe his cars may be affecting the auto rate they can get.
Hey I’m curious if anyone has experience with the Medical Review Program in North Carolina. I was getting the info on my Drivers License updated and was asked if I have either substance use disorder or mental health issues. I have both and answered this honestly, though I wish I’d asked if I could decline to answer, because the situation has a lot of nuance. I’ve never had a DUI, take my meds as prescribed, am in regular contact with my doctor and other medical professionals who have never expressed a concern about safely operating a vehicle, and I don’t drink alcohol or take any illicit substances or anything else that could otherwise affect my ability to safely drive.
I’m trying to understand if answering these questions honestly is going to require that I go through a medical review. Assuming that’s the case, I’m wondering if there is anything I should do to prepare, especially regarding paperwork (ie preemptively signing ROIs with doctors or gathering documents etc). If anyone has gone through this before, I’d appreciate your insight. Thanks in advance!
Can I renew as usual or are there extra steps I'll need to take?
So just bought a motorcycle due to this gas crisis going on right now. Dude and I went to the bank got title notarized etc. get the title, look down and see he has SIGNED THE TITLE in the application for new title section under owner 1. I am FREAKING OUT. I have no contact with the guy as I had confronted him over text because the bike started having mechanical issues a few days after I bought it and he's ghosted me. I have no clue what to do. I thought of signing under owner 2 and trying to get the title in BOTH of our names so I can at least get the bike registered in solely my name. But I have no clue if that's possible. I really need some help here. Am I screwed?? Please help me!!!
Hello, I am in the U.S. on a student visa, and I have passed the written driving test. I have a driver's license from my home country and a learner's permit in the U.S.
My husband and I rented a car, and he is teaching me how to drive. He sits in the passenger seat while I practice. He has US driving licence.
I have two questions:
Can an examiner just refuse to give a skills test if they want to?
I know most of the criteria are simple pass/fail with no judgement involved: do the turn signals work, do the hazards work, do the brakes work, with very little room for judgement calls. I think there's also usually a general "Car must be safe and clean" condition, which gives a little leeway for judgement calls. But, can the examiner just look at the person and Nope Out? Or, do you get an Uber budget so you can get out of the car halfway through the test and get back to the DMV?
I know a person who now, as an adult, has to retake the knowledge and skills test to get her license back, as an adult. She's failed the knowledge test three times in three days so far. She is ... spacey, lets say, to be kind. Distracted. Carries on conversations with people who may or may not be there. A friend and I were discussing this and we can't imagine that an examiner just can't Nope Out in a situation like this, but, also, there's got to be a reason to check on the form, right? Do you all have an incredibly complex instruction to ask, before the car goes in to drive, so you can check the Didn't Follow Instruction auto-fail box on the form?
You can't just be required to ride in a car as an examiner with anyone who has passed the knowledge test, can you?
hello guys I just got my title in the mail and my dumb ass opened it the wrong way tearing it, is it still good?
Hello, I am in Illinois, Cook County. My father passed recently and his only asset is an old car titled on his name alone. That car is worth under 4k and my mother wants to sell it. Does she need to come to the DMV with the potential buyer to make sure the title is transferred from my father to that buyer? We have some guy interested in buying the car and he says he can handle the title transfer without the DMV, but I want to make sure we follow the law. Also, I dont want to find out that this car is still on my father's name a year from now - who knows what kind of shady activity it can be used for. I would greatly appreciate your advice on how to handle this legally and without paying excess fees. Thanks!
I paid NY sales tax upfront on the lease but now the leasing company says it has to pay CA its sales tax on every lease payment. This is a clear double tax (now I am paying 18% tax on my lease!). I understand it is clear that NY will not refund, but there seems to be some way that I can get CA to apply the already paid tax as a credit. Has anyone been successful in accomplishing this?
I got a fix-it ticket for expired reg. (shame on me, I know), but I've been a bit too busy to go into the office (and I can't make an appointment in time). They processed my request and approved it, but now it says it's 21 days to get it to me in the mail! I need to get the ticket signed off by 7/24. Am I cooked? Can I go in person and get it sooner?
