Big Asphalt has trained birds to eat the stones out of potholes to accelerate road surface degradation.
Birds could easily find stones from the sides of roads, or safely away from roads altogether. Evolution says that birds that eat stones in safer places die less and have more chicks. Given that birds feasting on dangerous potholes haven't all died out, means it must be Big Asphalt. It's the only explanation.
