What to expect from an anemic cat

My 15 year old cat is nearing the end of his life, long before I want. About a month ago he was diagnosed with cancer - he has a tumor in his mouth. Along side the tumor he has arthritis, asthma, and thyroid issues. For his arthritis he gets the Solensia shot. For asthma he also gets a shot but I don't remember what it is. And for his thyroid he gets a pill twice a day.

To keep him happy and comfortable for as long as possible, as the tumor can't be removed and even if it could he'd have no quality of life, he's on Prednisone and Gabapentin. I'm having a hard time with watching the side effects of the Gabapentin since it makes him sleepy and wobbly.

On the 15th he saw the vet for his monthly shots and we did bloodwork. His bloodwork showed that he's just one point into the anemic zone. The vet told me it's probably due to the inflation of the tumor and she told me to increase the dose of the steroid.

Since then I've been having the hardest time with knowing when to take him back to the vet, if it's worth it to keep him going, avoiding a trip to the emergency vet where he doesn't come home (my worst nightmare), and a lot of other intrusive thoughts. It's been hard to focus on work or anything else. Now with him being anemic I've got even more worries and I'm hovering over him far too much - I've got no self control.

I just need some advice on what to look out for. Google says to look out for lethargy, but that's hard since he's getting a sedative three times a day. Google also says to look out for pale gums, but I'm having a hard time knowing if they're pale or not. What other things should I look out for?
